Title: rod length/casting distance- is it about skill or is it about physics?
Post by: Gavin Ng on December 09, 2008, 01:06:56 PM
Hey guys, just wondering, in terms of the rod legnth/casting distance relationship, will a longer rod always cast further than a shorter rod or is it simply easier for a novice to cast further with a longer rod?

I'm tossing up between the daiwa monster mesh 8ft 3 or a ocean tackle international which is 7ft 6 and rated pe 6, or i can get the pe 8 option but I think it would comprimise casting distance as i will only be casting weights under 200g.

I wiull be fishing landbased so casting distance is important, just wanted to know your thoughts. But having said that, a shorter rod would be easier to work the popper and fight the fish is this correct?

Thanks guys
