Title: Rod for 150g poppers (<600$)?
Post by: Lorenz Seebauer on March 21, 2022, 08:25:42 PM
Hi,
my Xzoga 7710 ( 7'7") broke at the handle. I think about repairing or replacing it.

What alternative would you suggest for poppers with 120-150g like e.g. Heru Cubera & Skipjack?
I don't want to fish bigger poppers. It should be fished from boat and shore. My second rod is a PE8 in 7'7" (Xzoga 7708).

At the moment I would consider anything below 600 US$/Euro (Smith, ASWB, Hots, TempleReef,...).

Edit:
Maybe one of those?

Hots, GIPANG RYUJIN, GT-79XH, PE 6-10, 230g MAX
TEMPLE REEF, GT EXPLORER, 80-10 PATHFINDER, PE ~10, ~190g
Yamaga Blue Reef 710/10 Chugger
...

Update:
I took the Ripple Fisher PowerFight GT 711 Nano as I didn't get the Yamaga for a good price.

Hi,
How do you find the Ripple Fisher PowerFight GT 711 Nano?
I would suspect is is well capable of larger poppers. What's the heaviest/largest cup you have effectively worked?
Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris,
Sorry, I am from Germany and only get the chance to fish for GTs once a year. Maybe I will test cast it in a local lake...

Ripple Fisher advertises it in a table as stiff rod for small, medium and large cuped poppers. They give a couple of examples for cup sizes.

The Ripple will be well suited for what you want it for

Hi Brandon,
thank you. I'm quite happy so far  8)

The largest cup I fished with the PowerFight 711 is the Cubera 150, which worked very good. I didn't get a monster, yet, but it seems it was a good choice.
