Title: FIJI travel next july 2018
Post by: john desarce on January 17, 2018, 08:50:20 AM
Hello guys, i am preparing my next travel with my wife next july (i plan to be there from 15 july to 15 August)

And i have a few questions about the fiji island:

Do yo know good points for fishing overthere ? i 'll have the marine charts on navionics and i plan to find someone (local fisherman maybe..) who can bring me on the sea.
The main goal is just travelling with my wife but i hope to go fishing 2 or 3 times from a boat and i cant afford to pay a professional for that.
what price is possible to negociate for a local fisherman ?
I will take my rod and reel.... =) Popper 80lbs and shimano twinpower 1000, what do u think about it?

I will stay on the main island 10 /15 days i think and i will try other islands like kandavu (south) or maybe taveuni who seems to be good places to fish.
Is that possible to catch good fish from the sand ? ( popper 2,55m ..=)

If u know someone otherthere i will be happy to plan something with him ! Thank you

Hey John,

My advice for Fiji is to try get out to areas that the locals can't target on there smaller boats.

There are some good operators that are relatively inexpensive compared to the hotel chains, one of which I know for certain is down on the Coral Coast (DM for details). I had a local guy charge me $60 an hour for just me which I though was reasonable. Your best bet is to make friends with the hotel staff and ask around.

I have a few contacts over there that I can put you in touch with if you like.

hey john
the time of year your going is wrong for gts,you might be thinking there still around surly and they are but its hard to get a strike. i went there out of season and was bitterly disapointed, paid a fortune for boat fishing days, threw 150-200grm poppers at reef all day and nothing, there no bait in the water that time of year so there just not fired up, its more pelagics that time. i was fishing out of nadi as it was a family holiday, down south around ono is meant to be the mecca, might be differant down there but not from what ive been told
