Title: getting to fish the break sea spit??
Post by: Ben Thomson on February 26, 2012, 01:26:33 PM
Hey gents,
Does anyone know of a charter company that has a good rep for fishing Fraser island(break sea spit)?? I have spoken to Nomad Sportsfishing and they don't visit the area anymore due to 'unpredictable weather'.. Any thoughts..?

cheers,
Ben.

Ben,

You can try Rob Wood Game and Sportfishing Charters.
He has a website with the same name and does Lake Monduran Barra charters in his Skeeter as well as Game charters in a 36ft Blackwatch.
I know his southern limit is Breaksea Spit, and he has some experience at GT Popping.
I have no idea of his price, but its a starting point.

Oh and he owns the Gin Gin Hotel, a great place in CQ for a drink and a steak.

Ken

fraserguidedfishing.com.au, get in touch with Bargy (Mark Bargenquast) he has access to a 26ft hooker (no, it's a boat  ;))

Bargy has a vast knowledge of the whole area, give him a ring

As Nomad have pointed out it is very weather dependant and it's a loooong way from home if it should blow up :o

I second Bargy. There isn't much he doesn't know about Hervey Bay and surrounding areas.

Hey glen, nothing to report on mate. Was cancelled within 6 hours of leaving due to a crazy low pressure system screwing any chances of going for  fish!

Mark doesn't visit the break sea spit, and  as far as I was able to find out, no one does. There are your "bums on seats" charter company's that will take you outside the spit but no one actually fishes it. Go figure!

Bargy Is a good bloke mate and if you want to chase some good long tail and fish the flats then I wouldn't call anyone else.

Hope that helped

Hey Ben, Ive fished with Bargy about a year ago, great experience, longtails and monster queenies but bit crappy to get on the flats and chase the Golderns. Ive fished a lot up Wathumba and around Roonies. I have a 5.8 glass yank bay boat, would love to try and get out to the bommie , a tag along trip might work with someone in another boat that knows the area... Plenty of room on My boat for another popper chucka like yourself.

The most volatile place in the world...and for good reason given the converging currents and seas! It's incredible  ;)

Luke,

I sense you are still a changed man from your first visit  ;D

It's a loooong way from anywhere, the weather can be fickle at best.

Though once you have had a sesh on the "bombie".......you never forget it!

Cheers,

Aaron.
