Title: High speed bs low speed

Purchasing a saltiga tomorrow ... Any suggestions on which is better for jogging poppering... High or low speed???? I already have an older saltiga z6500 low speed .. But have had it for 7 yrs an it's time for an up grade for a Fiji trip tomorow

Hey Brad,

I would use a high speed for popping and a low speed for jigging.

If i were to select 1 personally...... Low speed.

Probably doesnt help you much but its my 2 cents.

i always use low speed for jigging if i can - stella PG models or 20k

Definitely high speed for surface lure work and low speed for jigging.

If you want one reel for both, there are compromises around the 5 ratio and slightly higher.

Also, I think jigging with a high speed reel is really tough both for the rhythm of working the jigging and even more so when you catch a fish.  You can though pop with a low speed reel (but it is not ideal), and when you get a fish on a low speed it is actually an advantage.  So, my comment would be that a low speed is a better compromise reel than a high speed.

Any fish of size will always be easier to crank in on a lower speed also...
