Tackle & Techniques / Rod to reel matching help
« Last post by Simon Bradley on September 14, 2021, 05:18:04 PM »
Pretty new to the land of GT fishing,  and need help matching the rod and reel with the style of casting.

I have the following Shimano rods and reels, and am trying to decide whether the lighter reel is better matched to the Stickbaiting rod or the Popping rod:

Saragosa SW-A 14000XG reel with 300m 80lb Braid
Saragosa SW-A 18000HG reel with 300m 100lb Braid

Terez TZS79STK 7'9" Stickbaiting rod
Terez TZS80GT 8'0" Popping rod

I'm leaning towards the lighter reel for the heavier casting weight of the Poppers, but want others thoughts on this.

Tackle & Techniques / Blank Recommendation Wanted for GT Stickbait Rod
« Last post by Greg Scharping on January 20, 2021, 11:32:16 AM »
I'm looking for a blank to build a stickbait rod for 90g to 200g lures, PE 8 - 10.  It needs to have a softer tip than one used for poppers.  Seems my only choices are Black Hole, and Phenix Titan (Phenix Megalodon is too stiff, built the 8 ft version for popping).  Saltywater tackle no longer sells RacePoint blanks.  Does anyone have experience with Suzuki popping blanks (too stiff for stickbaits?).  Would like to start wrapping as it's winter in the States.  All suggestions welcomed.
