Title: Mission Red
Post by: Rohit Saqa Lal on October 03, 2009, 10:00:16 PM
I have been trying to make a set of rods for myself and match them to this baby that I used to own previously. My fav ride to date. 5.7L of Chev V8

I am now running around in an AWD drive version of the same thing but alas its dull old grey but if I sell lots and lots then I'll upgrade to latest model which now runs a 6L Chev :D

My dreams are shattered, I cant find stocks of the bright red EVA that I used to sell so will have to put that dream aside and hope I can score some of that EVA at a later stage

In the meantime I am on a new mission. This is the Daiwa Maverick 6500H and I am in lust (http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv22/dakaurods/Misc/yikes.gif)(http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv22/dakaurods/slimeys/boff.gif)(http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv22/dakaurods/Misc/sweetheart.gif). New project is to build up on my GT Popping blank in matching colours. The other red EVA that has arrived looks to be a good match and I have the right colour threads. I will be glueing up the handle tonight and upload pics as the build goes on. Will be doing this in between work so will take a some time

Wish me luck!! Mrs doesnt understand (http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv22/dakaurods/slimeys/undecided.gif)

Had a bit of an accident last night. Went to woolies to grab some steaks and stepped on a grape. As you can imagine, the spill was something to behold. Injured my left leg though and still in a lot of pain. Rum and neurofen is helping some.

Feeling well enough to continue working so onto glueing up the handle. I have both EVA and hypalon in the not so funky red. I am torn between the two but think I will go with the EVA to save some weight

If only they had grapes instead of banana peels on MarioKart you would have known to swerve.

It will be pretty awesome when you are done, but Im not sure it will top the SW Combo you posted a fortnight ago.

Here is the complete handle. It turned out better then I expected. This red is starting to grow on me. Hope you like it

I went a lil too deep on the scallop just before the butt cap, oh well, its home baked!

Here is the winding check fitted to the tip section. This butts up like a seal onto the foregrip once the tip is inserted into the ferrule

The blank is another one off prototype in my quest to source or develop a popping blank. None of the brands with a decent blank is willing to sell em naked

Looking good ! Is this built with the norm of the offset handle/butt connection?

I think we may have whacked your dogfight on this one, I am not sure though. Its one of these blanks that I could only afford to get rolled in 1pc and then upon request, would either use a two piece seat like on the mongrels I posted earlier or on this one where I have used a reinforced metal ferrule inside the tip of the foregrip. Those days are now over as I have just scored a new blank range. I am still very fond of this existing blanks though so will complete the build and use it hard on an upcoming trip to Fiji. I'll replicate this look on the first of the new blanks when they arrive and get that blanks painted holden red hot too

Need to find some twisted leaders  ::)  ;D

I didnt know of the existence of such a beast, will have to check up on the avani gt red

btw, them grapes are deadly fruit!!!

Went to the doc today to discuss the xray results. Fractured fibula head. Will be fitted with a knee brace in a few hours, staying on for a long  weeks. Time for some self inflicted pain....yeas, I am going to attempt a crosswrap of some sort!!!!

Avanai GT 12 is available in Japan but I think will be difficult to access in Australia. You will find getting Jerry Brown in that colour off eBay much easier!

I was initially looking tuffline red but only goes up to 80lb

All the underwraps now completed. I tried to play with some crosswraps but I have absolutley zero flair and ability to not make it look tacky. In the end I just did a very simple one using the highlight colours. I think it came through looking elegant, I hope it does anyway!!

Beautiful work Rohit.

How do you shape the EVA, is it some lave / knife?

Keep up the great creations.

Looks great - same colour as the flames off the Ford at Bathurst.

Frog 100lb braid is red - maybe an option for you.

Cheers

Have to report, mission failure!

The on applying the epoxy the colour turned into not what I was after. I cleaned it up and rewrapped the lot. Looks much better now. guides going on next. Will post pics of the complete rod soon

Mrs is getting into the spirit of things now too! Check out the Maverick matching Sari. Looks like will be able to squeeze some time in to do the guides tonight, almost there. My maverick has arrived at my local. Hobbled over to day to fondle it. She is lovely
