I think any of the rods would handle fish below 25kg easily, more of a deciding factor would be the terrain/lure type which you would be fishing to help you make your decision!
-
What line class and lure weight do you wish to fish with?
-
I think with line pe5 or pe6 n with lure stick bait, pencil n chugger 120-150gr..
Sorry guys, coz my english so bad..
I'm from Nias island - Indonesia
-
Christian - you're from Nias Island and your sur-name is Nias? is this simply a coincidence or are you using a name other than your real name? if so, please note our forum rules - we request people use their real names

Hey Christian,
I also am living in Indo at the moment and the under 25kg is pretty much the norm from the rocks. I have the LR88 and love it for both from the rocks and the boat. It is a big advantage being able to cast that extra few meters and certainly has pleanty of grunt for fish of this size.
Thats my two bob worth anyway!
-
@ Gus: LR88 is good rod but it's too long for me. Coz fight from boat n i'm just 165cm high...
-
Something like a Carpenter Coral Viper in the RF35 sounds about right
-
I know carpenter coral viper is the good rod, but the problem carpenter coral viper not ready yet..
What u think about keyolhu, gipang 78mh n seed p76?

Hi Brandon ,
Thanks for the support , you are one of the guy they will listen to and many have benefitted from your advise .
Jon .

Big 'thumbs up' for the SP80M 8) and it will go beyond 25kg fish quite happily if the situation requires.
-
I like Coral Viper RF35 more than SP80M. Coz review RF35 nice to playing stick bait n chugger..
Any one can help me to find RF35?
-
Christian, unless someone has one available for a private sale, Carpenters are an exercise in patience. Speak to your local distributor about ordering one and then wait patiently. If you don't want to wait, opt for another brand.
-
Ok brandon, I will talk to my local distributor.
About RF35, can I find the video action in youtube?
-
Sorry Christian - no idea about YouTube. What do you want this for?!
-
Brandon, I think u know video of rod in youtube, n I want watch it if so
-
Christian, I think what Brandon is trying to say is that he does not know of any videos of the rod on youtube. Why don't you try and do a search for it on the youtube site?
-
Ooo, sorry about that, coz my english so bad..
I have to search in youtube but I don't find it..

Finally go to SP80M. Beauty rod with black colour. But this rod very stif, like pe8-10 for me.
I want pair with Accurate SR30L + line PE8 + lure 100-150gr.
What u think about combination Guys...?
-
Hi Christian ,
How did you get the rod so fast , you must own your own airline ! :o You will find SP80M has enough backbone to subdue big GT without causing the angler to suffer much .
SR30 has history of " drag spike " so be carefull n you must maintain the drag washers in that reel .

Christian, the SP80m is at most a PE8 rod. It is definitely not a PE10 rod. The reel is really very much dependent on what weight line you want to fish. If you are going to be fishing PE6 - 8 for the most part, I'd suggest you look at a 10000XG as you can always get a Studio Ocean Mark No Limits 16000 spool if you want a bit more capacity. If you want the reel fish PE8-10, then I'd suggest a Stella 18000HG or a Dogfight. Personally, I can't see any reason why you would get an Accurate over a Stella or Saltiga - but that is a personal view.

Brandon,
How much more line will the SOM take? I can't seem to split the difference.
-
I don't have the reel in front of me but I think that it takes something like 270m of PE6. All I can say is that the SOM spool is noticeably bigger.
-
PE6 300m, PE8 250m according to the specs, standard spool will fit less than 200 of PE8

@ Jon Li: Hehehe... I'll get SP80M just two days from Jakarta to Nias.
@ Brandon Khoo: Yes Brandon, i'm looking Stella 10000XG for my SP80M. But i want to know what reason stella better than twinspin?
Yesterday i'm popping with SP80M + SR30L + PE8 + Cubera 150gr. I'm casting nonstop in three hour.
Why i'm very tired? Whether because very heavy weight or because SP80M very stif? Please give me input..
chris,
-
Might I suggest to GET FIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That would be a good start, if that fails try fishing 20lb on plastics for snapper or simply HTFU.
It really isn't that hard.
Did you happen to get/raise any fish in that 3hrs of casting? Maybe you could try a new area to fish.
-
Christian, I'm having a bit of trouble understanding your question. You're asking me why you should buy a Stella 10000 over an Accurate 30 and in the next sentence, you're complaining about getting tired?! ??? Is this a serious question?!
Seriously though, apart from the obvious issue with weight, if you need to ask why I am recommending a Stella over an Accurate, you haven't done much research at all.

chris,
Christian ,
2 days during the last few days of the year is fast , I was told by the courier service they can't promise one day service for Bali shipment , Nias Island is a little more complicated to reach than Bali .
If I am not mistaken , before this SP80M you have DJ83ML , now these 2 Carpenter rods are quite different in action n graphite modulus . DJ series are rods meant for beginners and the way to cast SP series is quite different that the " lobbing " style used for DJ series , my suggestion is you try lighter Cubera . Please note that Cubera 150 + 2 trebles + splitrings can become 175 gr. or more depending on the type of trebles n size of splitrings and this weight is very close to the stated " lure weight " of SP80M which is 190 gr. .
Another advise is to do exercise as Brock advised but my suggestion is you practice casting more often using 100 ~ 125 gr. lures and get used to with the action of SP series .
On another note , SR30 is heavy metal and you may do better with lighter reels and yours is a low geared one too , may have to reel a bit faster to retrieve line after each stroke , this also can contribute to your tiredness after 3 hr. of casting n popping .
