Hi guys my question is should i put some Cal's drag grease on the drag of the SOM NO LIMITS 16000 Stella spool or is the drag good enough dry? ::)

Vasko,
Heres an earlier thread about the SOM spool, found that while looking at options to upgrade my 8k Stella.

i own a no limits 16000 spool, but it does not have the 3 phillips head screws on the underside of the spool like the one in the linked post, i purchased mine a few months back

Hi Sean how is the drag is it smooth with out drag grease or have you applied grease to the drag stack how would you compare it to standard spool?
-
I have not greased it, its only been used on one trip and the drag was extremely smooth out of the box, if it becomes rough i will grease it.
These are much better than the standard spool, more drag and a steeper curve and cast huge
I will say that the line capacity was overstated i feel, it said it could hold 260m of pe 8 but i would not push it past 220, also took bang on 300m spool of pe 6

Sean thanks for reply I going to spool mine with Jerry brown 65lb solid how much do you think il need to fill the spool ?
-
i have never used jb braid so i dont know, but if you got a 300 yrd spool of 65lb on there id be happy
-
Sean i would be happy with 300 of 65lb but was not sure if it was enough to fill the spool ::)
-
If spooled correct 300 yd's of 65 lb is no prob
I have mine filled up with 275 y'ds ( 250 meters) of JB100 hollow, and it's not overfilled.
The trick is to spool it up with half the drag you expect to use while fishing

Patrick thanks for the reply ,Thats a good amount of 100lb hollow you have fitted on the spool it must be a fare bit thinner then solid? . Did you grease the drag on your SOM spool or have you left it dry? :)
