Title: Endless Passion / RF Ultimo
Post by: Oliver Deakin on July 13, 2015, 12:20:46 PM
I'm interested in an Endless Passion 82/38 for stickbaits to 180g and poppers to 140g.

However, they are tricky to source especially from the UK.

What Ripple Fisher is equivalent? I assume an Ultimo but is the tip softer on this range compared to EP?

And would the EP 82/38 be better matched with a Saltiga Exp 5500H (spooled with PE8) or 8000H size reel?

Thanks again guys,

Oli

The closest Ripple model to this is the 82LC (longcast). The Ultimo UG82MH would be the closest in power but this is a stickbait rod and will have a softer tip.

In terms of the reels, either will do. The smaller reels are more comfortable to use but are not as robust.

Thanks Brandon, I suspected the Ultimo would be softer.

Are the heavier versions like 710H Nano useable for poppers to 140g?

Hi Oli,

I replied you on the Exp 5500H bail arm free play question, hope you got it.

The 5500H on the EP82/38 is a awesome! Sweet spot is casting 160g stickballs.
Don't know about working poppers, have not tried, but I doubt it'll work except for maybe the smaller ones.

I don't own the Ultimo, but have casted a friend's, its a good rod too, but I prefer the EP, I am biased.

Cheers
Ben

Hi Ben,

I just checked and saw your message, thank you.

Thanks also for your reply, I picked up a Dogfight 8000h but decided to return it as I think the 5500H will do everything I need it to if I get a spare spool and load it with PE8.

The EP is in stock at Saltywater but there's shipping to add plus VAT and duty if I import to the UK. It will work out about 50% more expensive than an equivalent Ripple.

EP 82/38 is a VERY good rod but it is not 50% better than the 82LC Ripple Fisher equivalent.

My only caveat on the Ripple would be - if it is one of the new nano models, then these have not yet received much exposure.  If it is an older original 82LC, then no hesitation in saying buy it at half the price of an EP82/38.

Hi Ivan, need my heavier outfit by the end of August.

As I will also be throwing larger stickbaits to BFT I'm tempted by the EP 86/40 which I can find in Europe.

Will review all the options... Too many!
