anyone got the 8ft 3" monster mesh rod?
if so what's your thoughts?
someone must have had a fling or an opinion ?
-
Used one once but didnt like it,only a light popper stick..
-
I got one Daiwa MM 8ft3.
The top ring guide is quite small compare with other rod, it difficult to equip with light popper, it most made wind knot in ring guide.
Big poppers up to 100gr is comfortable when cast.
that all my opinion and other thing of this rod is quite good.

These stick arent too stiff, i would rather use 75-90 swimmer-pencil popper or 60-80 gr chugger installed with pe 6 rating and 100 lbs leader, I have tried to use 125 -150 gr popper, and unable to cast a long distance.

I've cast up to 125 gram metals at most and it was ok. It has plenty of grunt when hooked up but I wouldnt be casting big heavy lures on it and trying to work them back. You get what you pay for and at under $400 by a fair bit its pretty good, especially if you are rock fishing.

the heaviest lures i use are about 130 gms. I am currently running 65lb line so i think the rod should be ok.
cant really afford to spend more money at the moment.
Does anyone have another suggestion for decent allround pop/stick rod that wont break the bank?
maybe i should wait and save more money?
cheers Alex

Alex - it comes down to what you want to spend at the end of the day. From all accounts, the Monster Mesh is a honest stick for the price that will do the job. Looking at your casting weights and line you want to use, you can aim for everything from a T-Curve 15-24kg to a custom Fisherman GT Came T-RS with ICMNGG guides that will be seven times the price of the T-Curve. Obviously, we're getting to the ridiculous but what it is intended to show is you can save forever for a stick. It comes down to what your price point is.
The next standard up that is generally available locally are the Daiwa Saltigas. These are a nice stick. From here, you then move up to the price range of rods like the Hots and Zenaqs then from here, you're up into the price range of the Smiths, Ripples, Carpenters etc
