Can someone please advise what the difference is in the above? Is the following correct?

GT Casting SMP = Hollow Core

Casting SMP = Solid Core with added Wax to reduce wind knots

This is what i have been advised. Wanting to get the right application.

Cheers in advance guys

Hi Aaron,

Never heard of GT casting SMP however the GT max power plus is arguably the best solid core braid on the market. I'm not too sure that Varivas have a hollow core braid?

As for the casting SMP, it's the same as the casting MP but has a higher breaking strain rating so it can be used for IGFA records.

In my opinion, the wax on SMP creates more wind knots than any other line I have used/seen. That's if your casting with leader through the guides. The wax is simply too slippery and it catches up to the leader before it's left the guides and creates some truly terrible wind knots.

Cheers
Rich

I was intrigued and yes there is a GT SMP however there is no reference to it being hollow core. Those massive breaking strain ratings on it (120lb pe8, 150lb pe10) tells that it is again a way of making the line IGFA compliant.

Wicked Mark thanks a buck bro. I think ill just grab one spool and see how it goes on one of the 5500s. Been using JB 100lb for 4 years now but just thinking of changing to something else. Had a cast with the Varivas stuff last year and was rather impressed.
