Title: Any GT anglers live on Hamilton island?
Post by: Derek Mock on November 21, 2013, 08:02:35 AM
Hi all,

Stayed on Hamilton island before and am going again in December. tHanks for all who posted re Whitsundays, very helpful.

I'm keen on a day trip GT fishing and Sea Fever charters looks suitable but the transfers to daydream or airly beach etc don't seem to work out.

There are two charters on the island, of them Renegade seems an gt option but have to private charter the whole boat. I have a boat license but only found sailling boats to hire

Any suggestions on how to get out for a days popping?

Much appreciated :D
Derek

Try getting in touch with some Whitsunday locals that are members on here: Jono Moir, Chris Hansen and a few others. Send them a message via the PM system to see if they can offer you any advice.

Hi Derek,
It's been a couple of years since I was up there, but at the time it was possible to hire runabouts. Looked like polycraft around 5.5m with reasonable sized donks. That might be an option if you can get some local knowledge on where to fish....every point and bommie looked good to me, but I was on a social visit, no popping allowed.

Hi Derek,
I'd give Ash a call he should be able to pick you up from Hamo on the way out. The boat hire place graham is talkin bout shut down.

I totally agree with Chris,
Give Ash a call and soon as it as busy time of year for him you will not regret it the guy loves GT.
Pick up and drop off he is very flexible.
Overnighter on the reef is one to remember.
Tony.

Thanks to all who replied.

Will try sea fever in the first instance, then seek out the local advice if this falls through.

Finally found a guide that will pick up at Hamilton and target GTs around the islands.

Ash from Seafever very helpful but I can't get off the island for a reasonable cost for 6am start.

Long shot but any one on Hamilton island interested in GT Popping 22, 23 or 24th of December? (my preference is 23rd.)
$350 including pickup and drop off from Hamo, full day fishing around the islands targeting GT's, coral trout, etc and incl lunch.

Please let me know via PM as I'm keen to meet like minded anglers.
