PE line thickness chart

Hi guys, I'm doing some research for a magazine article.  What I'm looking for is a chart with the thickness of PE line.  For example, to class a line as PE5, what is the minumum and maximum line thickness.

Any help would be great.

The unit measurement is G = Gouw , it is based on the Japanese traditional silk thread measurement and PE = PolyEthylene is the fiber used to make fishing line . The higher number aren't used for fishing line but they are often used for other purposes in various industries such as parachute manufacturing , etc. .

You'd have to question the diameters on the tuff line, I'm sure PE10 is thinner than 130lb tuff line, similar question on the other diameters!!

This could make intresting reading, who wants to sit down and chart all known fishing braids, giving them a PE Vs. Lb. rating???

I agree Andy, but all we mortals can go by is what we are given. The differant forms of Braid make things interesting, one well known 'supa thin' measures  the one side and it's a flat braid it should be an average.

Agreed, just looking at tuff line xp on the link you gave they indicate 130lb is 0.585 mm which must be closer to the mark.

Hey everyone! Newbie to this forum, but I'm looking forward to learning and contributing.

IMHO PE ratings are not consistent between different manufactures.  As well as test rating on the package.  The only real way to determine how much line you can pack on any particular spool is to actually pack it on and measure it.  And similarly the only way I feel comfortable with the limits of any particular line is to do an Acutal Break Strength test with that particular line.  It would be nice if there was some type of methodology/consistency on how manufactures rate and test this characteristics but there are too many variables that come into play to put too much trust in anything the "claim" on the package.  Again, just my $.02.
