Guys, I thought it might be interesting for us to compile a list of different names which GTs are called from different parts of the world. I'll get the list started:

Hawaii - Ulua
Solomon Islands - Mamulla
Papua New Guinea - Butbut(no idea how to spell this - it could be Buttbutt!)

other contributions?
If it swims; I want to catch it!

Not that you'll come across to many decent sized GT's in the Philippines but there are a few.
In Tagalog, the local Philippino language they're called Talakitok, which covers any of the trevally species, and GT's are most commonly refered to as such. They are also called Mamsa in some parts, which is specificaly the giant trevally. Generally Mamsa is used where good GT's are more commonly caught.

David already posted what we call them here in SOuth Africa, but they are also called "Iggies" which I guess is more of a nickname for them....

The term "GT" is being used more and more down here these days, however most of the Trevally species along our coast are still referred to as "Kingfish" eg: Bluefin Kingish, Yellowfin Kingfish, Brassy Kingfish, Bludger Kingfish etc...
