Hi guys and welcome,

Trey, first hand expertise from someone who works for one of the big manufacturers is always welcome. The Pacific is a great place to explore and fish, enjoy

Marek, you've got some great tuna fishing right on your front door these days. Hopefully some of our members can help out.

Frank, some of the most famous GT fisherman are French so you have great company. Speaking from personal experience, Tak is a great guy to deal with.

Marco, nice to hear that there was a very positive outcome from your accident. Again, we have quite a few members here from the Netherlands and some very fine GT fisherman as well.

Regards,

Trev

Re: Introductions :: Who Are You?

I have been a member since April 2010. So after 5 years I guess I should introduce myself...

I joined the forum with zero popping and jigging knowledge and within a year found myself fishing for BFT at EHN in Tasmania with Brendan Wing, Luke Wyrsta and Thien Dao. In order to go on the trip I had to buy all my gear from scratch and Duncan from Fishhead was fantastic to me. Shortly after, I complimented my tackle collection with more lures for BFT after many emails to Sami Ghandour and Paul Chua at Saltywater Tackle.

In November 2011, I was at Fraser Island for my first GT popping experience with Luke Wyrsta and Travis on my own boat, we would repeat it in 2013 with my friend Justin Volker's boat, Luke Wrysta and Tom Smith. These two trips were what go me well and truly addicted. I would then repeat the trip with Le Hua from Master Baits Lures in 2014 which was such great fun.

I have been to Bermagui three times with Thien Dao jigging for SBFT, spent an awesome massive day in Musandam with Nick Bowles' business associates in 2013 (thank you again Nick) and most recently in 2014 I traveled with Jono Moir, Luke Wyrsta and Sami Ghandour to PNG.

I have a lot of quality gear and a solid understanding of the basics of the sport but no trophies to show just yet. If it weren't for the GTP forum I wouldn't have had the amazing opportunities I have been afforded to fish with some really lovely and talented people.

Thanks to Duncan for helping me immensely with early tackle selection and Le Hua for making me a 'Masterbaiter'

Thanks to Nick Bowles for meeting and helping me in Musandam and subsequent visits to Dubai; you have gone out of your way several times for me and it doesn't go unappreciated; top bloke!

Thanks to Sami for you help and your patience in PNG =/ and to Jono 'club-foot' Moir for the company and being a genuine friend.

Big shout out to Thien who shared the fruitless Tasmanian adventure with me (that's fishing). I have since become really good friends with this tackle-hoarding, jigging addict; a true gentleman and friend who would do anything for you.

Lastly, shout out to Luke whom over the 5 years has taught this idiot how to fish; he has become a good mate. You have introduced me to some talented and friendly people and afforded me many awesome fishing opportunities. Thanks for founding GTP and thanks to Brandon Khoo for your early partnership and continued role in making GTP what it is today.

In return I give a heap of time to GTP. As you might have noticed im an admin here for IT issues etc. particularly when Luke is away. Again, thanks for the opportunity Luke. I'm an admin on the GTP Facebook page and have been since September 2014; this is where i make my biggest contribution with daily reports etc. I really hope you guys are enjoying the massive load of new content and that it keeps growing and cycling back to the forum.

If you have any beginner questions about tackle and rigging etc. im happy to help. Of course any issues on Facebook or the forum just send me a message.

Im a Pharmacist from the Sunshine Coast, QLD and normally i fish with my close friends for Longtail Tuna and Snapper on plastics and stickbaits. 2016 will be a big fishing year. I hope to fish PNG (twice), Southern Oman, Japan & the USA.

Take care.

Amr,

Great post, very honest but it underlies my experience with many of the same characters you mention.

In popping and lure fishing terms I'm a beginner, although somewhat advanced in years. What I've found is that if you're willing to learn these guys are willing to give up their time. There is no substitute for spending time on the water with the guys that have walked the walk and talk the talk. In my experience, you just have to ask them and they pass on their knowledge readily. Don't waste the opportunity.

I love it...

Welcome Gungd,

You'll have a great time.

I was in Bali last month, what a great place. You also have some very good GT fishing close by.

Enjoy.

Hi, my name is Alex and I'm based in Ne Zealand.
Im new to the saltwater fly fishing scene as my life has been spent chasing trout.  Am getting into chasing kingfish here in NZ but am super keen to get amongst some tropical big stuff, especially GTs!

Alex,

Welcome, I'm also partial to the long wand but my ability is yet to match my ambitions.

Read Luke Wyrsta's recent trip report on Kanton Island and you may never want to fly fish anywhere else!

Enjoy.

I'm Dan, stuck in the middle of the USA in Kansas City, MO nowhere near a GT!  I've primarily fished for typical North American freshwater species, to include bass, trout, pike, walleye and catfish.  I've been to South America several times to target peacock bass and golden dorado, my two favorite freshwater fish.  I've only been on one saltwater casting trip for GT, but I've fallen in love with this style of fishing, and the quarry!  I have an upcoming freshwater trip, but after that plan on focusing on saltwater casting.  I love the ocean and the complexity and beauty of the reef systems.

Amr,

I had Pizza Hut last night! (Yuck!)-my son ordered home delivery while I was napping on the couch!  Don't forget Kentucky Fried Chicken!

Anyway, I'm headed to the Brazilian Amazon in 3 weeks for a greatly anticipated multi-species freshwater trip, then my focus will be on the saltwater game!  I have a fair amount of high-end tackle and lures, now I need to bend some rods!

Hi my names Peter, I'm situated on the southern end of the Gold Coast at place called Tweed Heads. During the summer months we have excellent fishing , you can encounter gt, spanish, black marlin, blue marlin, YFT, wahoo and yellow tail kingfish just to name a few.
Iv been fishing since I was a kid (mid twenties now) but have only recently started getting into jigging and popping. Best session I have had was on the 50 fathom line knife jigging with 200gram jigs, myself and 2 mates managed to landed 43 kingfish within a 2 hour period, safe to say I was exhausted!
I haven't fished many other places but hopefully 2016 can change that, I read an article about a gt adventure in New Caledonia and now that destination is on my hitlist, the article actually pointed me in the direction of this site.
I look forward to learning from you all and hearing your stories!

Peace

Brand new to the site and new to popping too. I finally have all the gear and now I'm just chasing info on how to target these beasts of fish. Based in Brisbane and frequently travel north for fishing too but a dream would be to land a GT off my home ground. Looking forward to all the knowledge I'll be able to learn from this site. Thank you for letting me join.
There's always a bigger fish!

Hey, everyone. My name is Joe. I live in the states, and grew up fishing the fresh and saltwaters of Long Island, New York. Over the past few years I've grown obsessed with vertical jigging for big amberjack, grouper, and whatever else hits the metal, as well as popping, for everything from striped bass to tuna. I'm glad to be aboard!

Hello everyone,
Thought it was about time that i made an introduction post. I come about this site from Duncan from Fishhead and have been lurking ever since.

I am an Australian based angler, from Brisbane QLD. I have been fishing for a long as i cam remember and have slowly been upgrading the target species.  i am yet to get a respectable GT outside of the pond in Singapore.  but i am slowly working out the local haunts and there seem to be enough Kings around to keep us casting.

We just completed a 4 day trip to hervey bay targeting the small marlin up there and managed to get 3 into the boat 1 on stickbait and two on skirts, i also dropped 2 on top water.

most of the fishing is from my 6.5m island cab plate boat 175 suzuki combined with a 290L tank.

the boat

small top water marlin (not mine)

golden from the jig

i also just like to thank everyone for the posts its good to come on and read about the sport i just hope i can get among some of the monsters...  soon
