Whats the excess cost for customs like these?

Hi Sean,

Carpenter has standard design for custom rod what they call factory design to start with. This is very similar to regular model design but will be built in Carpenter's own factory. Unlike custom rods from other manufactures, they have optional prices each change and they can be quite expensive if you want something very fancy. I will really need to get quote for individual specification and please send me an email if you are interested.

Cheers,
Tak

Hi Tak,
Do you mean that regular model was outsourced and built by other factories? Not by Carpenter staff?

It is correct Izhan. All regular models are built at factory outside Carpenter.

Dear Tak,
How carpenter QC their rods?
Any opinion regarding quality of the blanks, guides, threads, epoxy when comparing the regular with the customized models?
How many factory/s Carpenter outsourced their rod building?
Does they do also on lure production?

Thanks.
Wan

Holy smoke! Do you also want to know what brand of underwear Kenji San wears!?  ;D

Sorry Wan but I don't think Tak will be able to respond to the majority of the questions below as I doubt Carpenter would appreciate them being discussed publicly.

I reckon the said underwear would be understated black, maybe with a subtle silver trim  ;D

;D ;D ;D good answer Brandon  ;D ;D ;D

More seriously I don't think I will need to answer those questions. Kenji san will be much happier to prove quality of his tackle on water.  ;)

Only question I answer is that all lures are produced at his own factory.

Cheers,
Tak

Seems to me as a perfectly fair question.
For the ridiculously high prices charged for a rod I'm surprised the work is outsourced.
Why wouldn't Carpenter want this subject to be discussed .You think they are trying to hide the fact that they outsource there rods?
Do you think they would be embarrassed by revealing this information?
Seems like the question hit a nerve.

It is common knowledge that Carpenter have outsourced arrangements for their regular production. If Carpenter choose not to disclose various aspects of their rod-building techniques, that is their prerogative.

If you wish to post on this forum, please do so in a civil manner. If you find you can't do that, please refrain from posting here. There are plenty of other forums out there.

Was my post uncivil? I certainly didn't mean it to be.

As Brandon posted, there is no secret about out sourcing regular models. It is on Carpenter's website and I wouldn't have answered Izhan's question at the first place if it is secret.

Carpenter outsourcing are still in Japan instead of other brands which are outsourced in other countries with much lower labour cost .

Carpenter's outsourcing of their regular model rods is clearly stated in Carpenter Japan's web site, and in regular print size. (even with google translate, you cannot miss this fact).
A carpenter fan myself, but unaffiliated, this openness bodes well for the company and clearly they have nothing to hide.

That being said, Wan's questions/concerns are understandable, everyone who drops a chunk of change for any product wants to know to some degree where the product is coming from, and if it's news (to him) that the product he has been buying is outsourced, understandably, concerns will pop into his mind. Perfectly normal. Yes?

Suffice to answer Wan that quality is assured and that the location/number of factory/factories cannot be disclosed for commercial reasons. But take heart that the factory is IN Japan, that in itself is reassuring enough. He did not ask for the underwear color. Although if it has "Carpenter" printed all over it like the Carpenter buff, I would like to order some.

Just my humble 2 cents.

Dear All,

Happy New Year 2013!! May all be blessed!

After owning few regular Carpenters and only one custom, and testing/fished with them, i can say that i am very happy satisfied customer.
Oursourced or not, the blank is perfect in doing it's dedicated job.
The binding and the epoxy is eye pleasing. No epoxy crack.
The fuji guide, fuji reel seat and the handle was aligned properly. Guide spacing is at optimal position when fighting big fish.
I currently have no issues whether Carpenter outsourcing of their regular model rods or not.
Regular or custom, they have the same binding and epoxy quality.
In summary, i am proud to say that Carpenter rods is A1 class in term of quality and its quality assurance and hope they maintained it forever.

cheers
izhan

p/s they have Carpenter boxer??? :o :o i want also!!! 8) 8)
