How does the EP82/38 compare with the TBL80/40 for working stickbaits in that 140-160g range.

The TBL will certainly cast the 160gm lure better than the EP, personally i think 160 gm is just a bit too heavy for the EP, others may disagree.

The 140-160gm is perfect for the TBL though.

In essence matching the lure weight to the rod equates to better lure action, of course on some days it just does not matter.

The upper limit of the casting weight is meant for casting into the wind n please note , total weight of a lures has to include the armaments which may increase it by upto 30 gr. at the extreme case of big trebles + heaviest splitrings .

I would have thought the TBL80/40 would handle slightly heavier stickbaits, seeing as though it is the heaviest in the TBL range. So which rod do you think would be best to suit stickbaits from 140-200gram? maybe the EP86/40 R-Power ??

hmmmm...... interesting questions.

To me the TBL feels more like an absolute stickbait rod than an EP82/38. I would temper that though with the facts that I have used the EP82/38 on dozens of occasions and have only given the TBL 80/40  one serious workout so far.

I do agree with Andy that 140/160 unrigged seems like the perfect lure weight for TBL 80/40.

Re the popping question I would agree that CV79/40 is more suited. I actually do not mind using lures like a GT2 150 with CV79/40 (admittedly that is a very small-faced 150 gram chugger).  It's really good with new Seafrog twin hook and Cubera 125.

TBL series is designed primarily for stickbait works for GT fishing but  imho , MH series rods are more capable in handling lures weighing 200 gr. .  As for EP86/40 , the rod has not reached us yet so can't comment but EP series is designed for all purpose rods .

Folks,

Just thought I'd report back briefly.

I've only had the opportunity to take the TBL 80/40 out once since it arrived.  Unfortunately I (& we collectively) donutted for the day.  In all honesty, the casting and lure working performance was ideal (albeit from a "premium" level rod novice so i really don't have anything to compare against).

I only threw light lures for the day  - stick baits 120-130g and Cubera 125.  I was pretty happy with what it did on these lures so I'm keen to load it up with some heavier stick baits.

Weather this weekend looks awesome so I'm bankin on getting out and putting a real bend in the rod...

When I hear hoof beats.  I think "Zebra's" :)
