Title: Quiet Day off Moreton
Post by: Simon Thomas on March 05, 2009, 08:35:38 PM
It's been awhile since anyone put up a jigging post, so I thought I'd put one up from the weekend even though I didn't actually catch anything!!!

On Sunday I went out on a day trip on a jigging trip organised by FishHead.  Gordon from the shop lead the expedition on Bill Corten's boat.  With the northerly winds we started out wider (the 42s I think?) and worked our way in throughout the day as the wind freshened.  Basically it was a tough slog with a few kings just over legal size, a couple of ~6kg amberjacks and a better one of ~12kg or so to Gordon.  I worked hard all day, but my mojo seems to have left me and the only 2 hits I had I dropped.  So much for christening my new Amberjack 55 as planned.

Although I didn't actually catch anything I had a really great day and learnt heaps from Bill and Gordon.  I would highly recommend these trips to anyone who is considering doing one.

Cheers,
Simon

I agree Simon, Bill does a great job making sure the day is enjoyable, and you guy's still didn't do too bad on the fishing front as by all reports most boats bombed out last Sunday.

Hey Simon,
You went too far south. We took out a bunch of graziers who had never jigged before last Monday. They caught about 30 aj's and mack tuna in about 2  hours and gave up. No one wanted to keep going. Then went and caught some good red emperor. Most of the aj's were small though, close to the 75cm mark

Simon,
I think you need to have a quiet word to Dean.... by looks of things (and hearing of the usual capture allocation you guys have) it might be possible that he stole your mojo from under your pillow while you were sleeping  ;D
We all have those periods ... your technique is excellent, you had the right jig on, but the fish decided it just wasn't your day ::)

As an aside, the "other" charter boat out there near us had a particularly uneventful day. Maybe the secret berley system we had aboard Bill's boat was making the difference :D

Looking forward to the next trip!

Gordo
