Title: Monster Dogtooth
Post by: Adrian Watt on May 05, 2009, 02:15:07 PM
Hi all,
Thought you might like to see some of these pics.
We have been doing a bit of exploring round the island along the Great Astrolabe Barrier Reef and finding some great dogtooth tuna on the jigs.
This one we took on Saturday and is a pending Fiji All-Tackle National Record. It was the largest of 4 we got that afternoon.

Hi guys,
Yes, that was an absolute beautie of a doggie.
Andre is quite right, Zenaq rod, Shimano Trinidad spooled with 80lb Power-Pro braid. Wind-on mono to Shimano 325g butterfly jig and the fish weighed in at 90.6Kg.
Pending Fiji All-Tackle record. Line is being tested but as it was not IGFA rated it will probably over-test 80lbs and go into the M-60 line class.
3 other doggies we caught that afternoon we released. General policy is to release unless its a National record. Angler Bill Busch did an awsome job during the 45 minute fight. Early on we just couldn't stop the fish but we got her turned.

Epic fish.
Well done to all involved.
Seen quite a few over 50kg come up from that area and prior to this the biggest I had personally see was Darren C's 73.6kg on 50lb also taken jigging.
Will be around there in May and August for some serious jigging.
The GT bite has also been phenomenal and last Sunday was just plain back breaking work with a number over 30kg and 2 bust offs with a dozen or so fish landed.
Pure "died and gone to popper fishing heaven" stuff.
Could do a lot worse than Fiji for fishing right now.
The areas that Adrian Watt covers would be the place to be for those that intend to come this way.

Hey Adrian that is an awesome doggie hope you can put us onto the same in feb next year. I forgot to ask did you make Joe swim for the DVD's? ;D ;D.

I carnt wait to get back there I have some bigger gear now and some of those huge poppers for those big GT's, tell Joe at the price of the new lures ($35-$150) I will definetly be swimming to get them back.

If Adrian does get back to you the resort is Matava at Kadavu in Fiji www.matava.com (http://www.matava.com)
