Title: Moreton Bay GT Fishing
Post by: Peter Lowe on June 17, 2009, 02:25:37 PM
Hi All,

Went up to 1770 with some mates over the long weekend chasing GT's on the info I recieved from a friend who was up their a week before chasing trout - but getting destroyed by GT's, well we looked and looked finding heaps of great fish on poppers (my first popped cobia) but didnt manage a GT -

We got home and were not unhappy with the trip but were kinda hoping for out mate Trevor to show up, so we saw the forecast here in the Bay and thought - Let's go and see if we can find him here at home - guess what ?

Found him....... 9 for the day which was short 4am to 10.30am, the pictured one was our best.

Still loving the strike like it was the first sighted -

Cheers

Thats a solid fish!  And 9 in total - thats a good day out in anyones book.  I'm guessing it will be hush hush on locations being so close to home - and fair enough  ;) :)

Hi All,

Thanks for the kind comments.

Luke - the others were between 24 and 36kg, we did get a bit over excited with the hook up rate so didn't weigh them all - I was in my element.

Chris - Yes mate we did go to Bustard on the way back in from Fitzroy and their was good run in the tide but no Queenies and no GT's - well not that wanted to play with us anyway.

Brock - 151 cm and 41 kg on my dodgy scales, we slung him up in the brag mat - he was as fat as mud that one; the photos just dont do them justice.....

Mick - The trip was great at 1770, man the jiggin up their rocks, we pull up to a wreck with 4 or 5 bait fisho's hanging around all anchored up and shit, drop our jigs in and get a tripple hook up every drift - I love that... within 3 or 4 drifts they are asking us for some jigs - we had one guy start jigging with a 60 gram rusty old slug and he was outfishing his mates after the first drop... Soooo much fun ah

Mick I try to call you but you never answer - I will text you next time bro .... ;)

Thanks again all....

Till next time.

Hey Peter. Sounds like a trip you would experience on some outer reef. Awesome. I know you'll be a bit cagey on the destination, but did you get them inside Moreton or Outside. Once again mate well done

Hi Nathan - it was my tired old Jia popper (Nomad trip Feb 08) - man it has got some nice ones now and is still going ok, although it becomes a sinking popper after 3 or so casts which makes working it very difficult, luckily Duncan at Fish Head has more of the older style - well very similar anyway......Get in while stocks last as they say....

Ben - it was at the back of Peel Island, just beyond the bar... ;) some very interesting "new" structure out their now, in water about 8 meters deep with nothing else around - Hint - look out for the birds....

GT's RULE.....

What do you recon Mr. Morris, give your Jai's a run at the top of Moreton on Friday? the other end of Moreton Is from Peel Is, but still target area ;D.
