Hi,
I've ordered a Ripple fisher FS 78XH, I should be receiving the rod soon.
Apart from the craftbait and the hammer head, what other lures in the 200g+ can I consider worth buying?
How much PE 12 will fit on a 20k spool?
How much is a yumeya 20k max spool cost?
-
From what I've seen, don't expect too much change from $300US for a Yumeya max spool. Worth every cent if you want to use PE12 though.
Orion make some bigger chuggers in the 200g+ category that are worth getting like the Big Jim and Cono Cono... also Fisherman make the bigmouth in some big sizes.

Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Kevin,
We have one Yumeya 20K max spool left. It is $399 but as you are OS you don't have to pay Aussie tax so it would be AU$362. (It would squeeze into the tube with your rod). Gordon spooled his 20K spool and it took 300m (He spooled it really tightly). We haven't spooled a max spool with PE12 yet but estimate you will probably get about an extra 50m - so far we have been spooling them with lighter line for untra deep jigging.
Hope you got my email,
Cheers,
Janelle

Hi Kevin,
Sounds like a great outfit!
For GT's I'm not sure a 20k max spool is necessary. It won't do you any harm but I'm not sure theres a benefit - If a GT takes you for 25 metres of line its probably gone !! Also I think the bigger spools throw slightly bigger loops off on the cast so might increase chances of wrapping the butt ring and I don't think they add much, if any, distance to casts. I run standard 18000 spools with 130 hollow core (similar diameter to 170lb / pe12 varivas) works fine for me.
I use my 20k max spools for casting at big Tuna offshore where the line capacity might come in handy ! I can also see them being useful for those doing very deep drop jigging.

ha! meant to say bigmouth, don't know what I was thinking when I wrote that - fingers are typing before my brain is in gear.

Hi,
I would suggest you resist the 'buy buy' bug till after casting and chugging on what chuggers you currently have before buying the big bigger and biggest ones. ;D
-
Good God - are you going GT fishing or planning on starting water skiing?! ;)
if you're going to get a specialised PE12 outfit with a GT78XH, then there is only one popper for you and that is the Orion New Caledonia LPB Special Big Jim.
More seriously, there is great wisdom in what Gu has written. I don't know what size poppers you've used but the monsters like the I Cup (not even close to the LPB Special) are in a different class to work properly. Expect a world of pain just popping it for reasonable periods and that's not mentioning what it will feel 10 minutes after you hook up! :D

Thanks for all the feedback. I've loaded my 18000sw with 130lb and will load my 20000sw with pe12.
I don't think I'll have problem casting the 230g, what I need to be careful is when working big lumps and when fighting the fish.
