Post by: Sam Colvin on December 23, 2009, 12:40:59 AM
Gday Guys,

Looking for basically an allrounder spin stick. Something that will bully a ~20kg GT

Specs im looking for are:

Running PE5
Has to suite SW10000
Lures 100-120g (maybe a touch more)
No longer than 8ft, no shorter than 7'6''

Budget around $1000.

Thanks guys,
Sam

Sam ,

Carpenter SP80M , rated PE 6~8 but ideal for the casting weight of 80 ~ 150 gr. , fits into your budget and you won't regret buying it .

Sam, I think it will be very difficult to bully a 20kg GT on PE5

Haha was going to say the same thing.

But more seriously, take a look at the Carpenter Sam. Fits your specs, but run at least PE6(80lb) on your 10000SW if want to bully 20kg GTs  ;)

Hi Sam,

A couple of rods which would the fit the bill for you include:

Zenaq Fokeeto Tuna FC76-4
7'6" casts 60-110g (best match) max cast 140g, PE 4-6. Weighs 405g
Faster taper than most popping rods, has the tip of a tuna rod and bottom end more like a GT stick.

Hots Gipang Tide Lez 78MH
7'8" casts up to 120g PE4-6. Weighs 315g
Parabolic action, reasonably stiff all the way through - great mid weight popping rod.

A couple of the Smith rods like the WRC 80P and Keyholu 77 may also work for you if you want a rod with more stopping power, but they are more ideally suited to PE6-8 and will also throw heavier lures too.

Thanks lads.

Yeh i will be running PE5(78lb) or PE6(84lb)...not PE5(50lb) if thats what you boys where thinking.

I have had a look at the Tide Lez 78MH, which suites my specs perfectly.

Will have a look at the Carpenters and Zenaq's aswell.

Duncan, i get most of the Smith gear in at work and have found nothing that im happy with throughout their range. Also Duncan can you order in Hots, Carpenters etc?

Otherwise, where would be the place to purchase from overseas?

I am happier using PE5 = 70 lbs. and PE6 = 80 lbs. lines , the lines you mentioned is proned to break due to shock load .
