Title: Slashbaits 'I'm serious' LOL.
Post by: Greg Burt on July 22, 2007, 12:02:25 AM
The new Rapala Slashbaits have a small 'bib', but are worked and have the action of a stickbait, are they categorized as Stickbaits or Minnows, or completely separate. :-\
Luke, would I be ostracized [ausfishcized] for using them. ::) ;) Brandon, is this the type of 'minnow', I mean stickbait in Fusilier colour what you've been looking for :-\.
The Blurb "Its premium finish includes prominent scales and lateral line on the fuselage to capture and flash light like a beacon. This Rapala slashbait action cuts, darts and slashes its way through the water. Intended for multiple species, with an internal long-cast system built in. These are shallow diving lures, whose natural buoyancy suspends the lure during pauses in the retrieve. The adrenaline pumping X-RAP slashbait has extreme attitude with it's hard cutting, aggressive darting action. The integrated long casting system partners with an irresistible rattle and classic Rapal action. It suspends and comes to a roll at rest to trigger the bite. This versatile lure is appropriate for all saltwater gamefish".
PS: the top pic is angled from the front which makes the 'frontal protrusion' look larger than it's 10mm length, true, LOL.

I have one buT I doubt it would hold up against GTs. Its more of a light tackle lure that i use for bonnies, salmon and those type of fish.

they would work great on small GTs like the nuisances that take your lures when you're fishing for barra in the estuaries but would not be suitable for the type we're looking for here! The GT stickbait really does seem to be a specialist product for a small market and with the exception of some of the musky lures you see, there really isn't anything else like them around that I can think of.
One of the biggest lures sold locally by Rapala is the X-Rap 30 - the slashbaits don't come in this size. Well, here is one next to a couple of my smallest stickbaits. As you can see, the Runboh Jnr is bigger, not to mention the Heru Wahoo 100 which happens to be second smallest of the wahoos. Rapala just don't cater for this market. Also, the moulded plastic lures end up copping a hiding. That said, their older lures like the CD-18 were made from what looks like balsa - even worse!

Andrew, the XRW-13 is an awesome lite/medium tackle stickbait and the X-RAP colours are tops, and BCF have all Rapala Lures at 20% off till next Friday ;D. Any way I'm off down the river to try my 'bibbed stickbait'. ::) :D ;)
