And no...it's 2kg shy of the record.
Still one I hope to crack within my lifetime! (but I would not be killing/claiming it :P)

They kept that fish, though. Would this 70kg be a new catch-and-release record, Luke?
-
I just heard it was caught in 70-80m of water.
-
Would IGFA validate a catch and release record claim?
What really gets me thinking is that this place probably has the biggest GTs on the planet and Kozo has might have caught more 50kg plus fish than anyone else.
I understand Fukui also has a few mamas to his name from this area.
He got 2 over 60kg and a few in the 50kg bracket when testing the Tokara 60 and Komodo Dragon.
Anyone here fished these islands?
-
To answer my own question. Taken from a Fishing World IFGA supplement.
IGFA constantly discourages the needless killing of fish and encourages catch-and-release fishing whereby the angler enjoys the thrill of the catch yet has the satisfaction of allowing the fish to live. IGFA offers portable scale certifying services for members to weigh and release their fish.

So is that a yes?

Kozo maybe...but Kenji also regularly tests his products over there, i've lost count of the 50kg+ GTs i've seen his head hiding behind :D
I will be fishing Tokara in October this year and 2011.
-
i will be still working

Just this morning! I overlook 'these islands' from my apartment, though I should point out that the Kerama Islands (where the 70kg fish was caught) and the Tokaras are very different. There's 100 miles or more between us. I don't know which chain regularly produces bigger fish, but until this 70kg fish, I was only hearing about local GTs being in the 40kg range.
-
Only 40kg, sheesh, why do they even bother fishing for them.... ;D
-
Tokara's a beautiful place. Wish I had more time there but bad weather curtailed our trip and forced us out of the islands and back to the mainland.
The jetty is probably one of the best land based spots for GTs in the world. Saw a guy nearly dragged over one night - probably a monster class GT at the other end. Too bad the line parted.
Hopefully better luck next time round.
-
Amazing feat.
I really am amazed by his record setting and time on the water. Is there anyone on this board that consistently fishes with this guy?
HIIB Rocket may be renamed :)
-
In his videos what amazes me is his ability to stay so planted under what are obviously very heavy drag exerted on big fish. Truly Master Class fishing.
