Hi Guys,
I am only new hear. I am looking at purchasing my first GT Popping reel. I will be buying a Saltiga of some sort. I have been having a few issues on deciding on which reel I should go for. I am leaning towards the Dogfight with the gear ratio of 6.2. The S-EX 6500 have a gear ratio of 4.3. Do you loose the torque & power with the higher ratio??? Should I use the high gear or low gear option??? What do you use & how do you find it for all round performance?? If any one has new or near new reels they want to depart with let me know as am more than happy to accept all offers & options. Look forward to you mixed responses & much needed advice.
Also one more question.
Is the S-EX 6500 Maverick the new improved replacement of the Dogfight???
Cheers Scott.

Hi Scott ,
The higher geared ratio is better suited for popping rather than the lower geared ratio , IMHO . In the case of Saltiga then it has to be the Dog Fight rather than the Expedition/Maverick . :o
On another note , rumours are new model Saltiga is due to be released so it may pay to wait for it . ???

Thank you Jon.
Appreciate your feed back. Dose any one have any information on the new model Saltiga`s. Or any release dates? My next popping holiday will be February 2011 so I have some time up my sleeve. But at the same time I don’t know if I can wait that long.
Cheers,

Hey Guys,
After many weeks of not being able to decide, I finally purchased a Stella 18000SW. I am the biggest Daiwa fan, but after using both reels the Stella is just so much smoother when turning the handle compared to the Expedition/Maverick & especially the Dogfight. I can under stand the Dogfight being a little harder with the higher gear ratio. The Stella is in between the Expedition/Maverick & the Dogfight. AUD 1050.00 from my local tackle shop. I will be putting it on a Smith GTK77. Any comments on that rod by people who have used or have???
Thanks all for your comments.

FYI, Maverick is high speed ratio.

Good rod for PE8 work and good on the angler. Seen one used to fairly good effect over a week of fishing here in Fiji.

hi guys,
Scott just thought id say that the expedition is the same gear ratio as the red and silver s-extreme, where both the maverick and dogfight are both 6.2:1. Esentially the maverick and dogfight are the same reels bar colour and 1 bearing.

Thanks for all your input guys.
