Hi guys,
Hardly have a chance to comment here, but I thought I'd seek some general advise. I've been giving some thought lately for what could seriously be the best popper for garfish.
Stickbait, Chugger or Pencil?
So far, I think I would have to agree with Brandon that nothing much can top a 230g BIG NAMBAS. What are everyone's thoughts on this?
There is a good video on this technique but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Kasey, I've got the video on my camera of that action, only thing is I have no idea how to upload it to youtube. I might send the file across to you to have some fun with! Nothing beats popping for garfish, as a spectator sport anyway! ;D ;D ;D

As the pioneer of this form of fishing, I can tell you that the Big Nambas is hard to beat. The other lure that is good is a Fullscale Heckler in the monster class size. To work the lure effectively though, you need something like a Fisherman R10 77L.

I have been looking for something (avatar wise) along this line Brandon.
Brandon is most definetly the pioneer of this true art.......Rather than the text book 'walk the dog style' ...... the action has been modified to 'beat like a dog'........Numbas is definetly the star performer. ;D

It takes many years of practice and patience to get the strike right! There's no doubt that Brandon has got the 'beat like a dog' (LMAO, good one Peter ;D) technique down pat!
-
;D ;D....I cant take the credit for the 'Beat like a dog' naming......
Tak is the man who very affectionately named this true art form ..... ;D ;D
I wonder if it will find its way into some of the scenic Trout streams..... ;D ;D

This technique can also be used for minature sized bait fish, when they strike they go mental on the surface as brandon shall remember. ;D ;D ;D

Oh God, that was funny! That poor little thing went absolutely crazy after I tried to take him out with a monster popper
-
No Peter, it wasn't me! This 'beat like a dog' technique has been named by the pioneer himself! I wonder if he beats his dog like garfish with big Numbas. hmm very suspicious where his technique comes from...
-
Oh, I think someone should definately try it for trout! I'd imagine they'd respond similarly to a well-beaten gar.
I would pity Brandon's dog - does it go absolutley still, twitch a little, then float up backwards?
Okay, so are we in agreement that the best hooks are 2x or even 3x Decoy 10/0? You can rig a third treble around the tow point of a BIG NAMBAS just like 'The Porcupine'.
Richard Foong mentioned you took a very big SS Lure pencil from his shop Brandon. If his description is correct, I believe it would give the BIG NAMBAS a run for its money. Speaking of which, have you told Eric how effective his lure is at this art?
Having seen Brandon in action doing this, I would say that he is a very patient man, and that garfish have an uncanny capacity to recognise his face and then get quite smart.

In Rememberance of the Gar........ ;D ;D ;D
