Title: Hots 75XXH and Ripple Fisher GT79R rod questions...
Post by: Craig WILLIAMS on October 21, 2010, 04:32:16 PM
I would like to know from someone who owns or sells either the Hots 75XXH or Ripple Fisher GT79R what the total grip length is (from but cap to top of the fore-grip).
I’m looking at purchasing either of these two rods but I live in a fairly remote area so dropping down to my local popper chucking outfitter to put a bend in one isn’t all that easy.. I’ve emailed the few Australian online suppliers I’ve found but no one has got back to me. Ive also tried the Hots website but it only has very general information.
I’m asking this as I’m quite a tall guy and I’ve had issues in the past with casting rods having grips which are too short to get a good hold on when fighting fish. The handful of pictures I have seen of the Hots 75XXH it appears to have relatively short grips so before I purchase something and find out it’s not really suitable I want to obtain some figures.
Also any additional comments about either of these two rods (not already covered on this forum) would be much appreciated.

Craig,

Have you tried Ducan at Fish Head in Brisbane's bayside???

Up till recently, I worked there and we used to keep both of those rods in stock.

Give him a hoi.......It can't hurt.

Cheers

Aaron.

Craig,

Also worth noting, if you are not in a real rush, you can custom order the ripple fisher rods with handle specs to fit your style.

Hi Craig
The total length of the but section on my GT79R from  the bottom of the but cap to the top of the fore-grip is 810mm (32").

Aaron,

Duncan (and Tom) from Fishhead contacted me the day I put up this post. They have been extremely helpful taking the time to enter in to lengthy email correspondence and sending any photos of rods I have requested. It is difficult to get sound advice on specialist rods so to have people such as Duncan at Fishhead provide the answers when you cant physically make it to a store to to put a bend in a rod yourself is invaluable.

To anyone else interested I have found out the Hots 75XXH total grip length is 75cm (too short in my mind for a heavy tackle popper rod) and thanks to Zac I now know the Ripple Fisher GT79R has a grip length of 81cm.

Craig,

That's good to hear the lads are looking after you.

It was a daily occurrence bending up brands W,X,Y and Z against each other to see the actions of the rods, stated (and hence tried out) power and lure casting ratings.  Even the grip lengths and grip diameters were looked at, as there were at times enough variance to rule a rod as either a proposition or not for the client.........and many clients were nowhere near Brisbane!
It was FUN!!!!!!!!  If somewhat hard on the back after doing PE 10 class sticks for an hour or so!

Glad they are helping and I hope you get the rod those GT's deserve :)

Cheers

Aaron.
