Hi Guys,
I am new to this forum, thinking of buying a new popping rod, the current choice is RippleFisher Infinity 80 or RippleFisher 80.
Has anyone use these rod before?
Need some advice.
Thank you for your kind assistance.
-
Henry - I hink you need to let people know a bit more such as the line class, where you intend to fish, the reel you are looking to use etc etc.
-
Thank you Brandon,
RippleFisher Infinity 80 is PE 8, lure weight is 220 grams, heavy chugger.
Trevally 80 is PE 6, lure weight is 150 grams, chugger and swimbait.
will match it with Shimano Twin Power 12000, with PE 6 lines.
Target is probably GT or YFT 20kg up.
Anyone using these rods?
Thank you once more
-
Henry, I doubt the Infinity 80 will handle a 220g chugger. This is the weight class for the 79H and the Infinity is a significantly lighter rod than that. To me, its about a 160g max chugger rod. I have a Trevally 80 a the moment. This feels like about a 120-130g chugger rod.
Depending on the environment you're fishing, you may find PE6 to be a bit of a stretch for the size of the fish you want to target. What kind of environment are your proposing to fish?
-
I agree with you Brandon,
So i guess Infinity 80 is a better choice. I just fishes around Indonesia. There are some good spots for large GT and tunas.
Thank you for your advice.
-
Henry, where in Indonesia do you fish? I am based in Bali and get around the archipelago quite often.
I would suggest you reconsider fishing for GTs in most of the places I know around here with PE6, and you would be better off looking at a PE8 set up. If you want to use a Ripple Fisher, then a GT79R might be a better fit.

Hi Mark,
I am based in Jakarta, usually fishes around West Java and Sumatera area.
Will look on opportunities fishing at East Indonesia famous for monster fish.
Thank you for your info.
Cheers...

Hi mate
I have a Trevally 80 and run 100lb threw it..the rod had plenty of lifting power but it quiet a soft rod,I used this last week on a trip and landed a big range of fish on it from red bass, coral trout to 15kg,barracudda,spanish,and GTs to 28kg on it..was throwing lures up to 170g and from poppers to stick baits..
I must say for tuna I recommend this rod and run 60lb or 80lb,you will love it and if you choose to fish 100lb then its a comfortable rod for it..A nice Priabolic fold for those fish which swim under the boat.
The infinity I have tossed and turned many times about as I have similar rods like it,a pretty powerfull stick I must say...
-
Hi Nathan,
So which one do you prefer?
I am more comfortable using a PE 6 rod as it will not tire me out easily but i am just concerned about the lifting power. Once you get a fish more than 20 kg, it's gonna take lots of effort to get the fish up.
Trevally 80 is only PE 6 while Infinity is PE 8.
Thanks

Henry, is there a reason you are looking at Ripples only?
Reading everything you have said, I think for example a Carpenter Coral Viper 79/40 might be a perfect fit. And I am pretty sure it is available in Jakarta.
-
Hi Mark,
I am still looking at other alternatives. Carpenter is another choice and HOTS is another one.
Thank you for your info.
Cheers

Henry, I can only recommend that if possible, you find the rods you're interested in and feel what they're like loaded up. You're the only one who can decide in the end on what suits you. I think that it becomes very easy to get confused between what I have written and what Nathan has written.
-
Yes Brandon.
Sure i will make sure that the rod i am going to buy suits my style and fits me well.
Thank you for your helpful advice.
Have a great weekend.
-
No worries, Henry.
Nathan, curious where you have seen so many Infinity 80s seeing it has been a low volume import by Nomad and the only other place you'd see one anywhere near this part of the world would be at Anglers Hut. I don't know an angler with one myself.
-
I got my Trevally 80 from Anglers hut...
-
Mate, I wasn't asking about the Trevally 80, I was asking about the Infinity 80. You made the comment below that you have tossed and turned the Infinity many times and that it is a pretty powerful rod. I'm curious as to where you might have experienced so many of the Infinity seeing it has never been a popular stick here. Nomad bought only a handful in. I don't even know an angler who owns one.
I suspect you may have this stick confused with another because the Infinity is not a particularly powerful stick at all. A 79R and 78F is definitely stronger, not to mention the more serious popping sticks like a 79H.
From a forum perspective, I am simply keen to ensure that we do not end up confusing or mis-informing members who are seeking advice on what maybe an expensive purchase.
-
I think Nathan said he had "tossed and turned about" rather than "tossed and turned with".. .i.e. thought about it a lot, rather than used it a lot?
For what it is worth I do not think I have ever seen an Infinity 80 in action nor in a tackle shop!
-
I have seen them in a tackle shop in New Cal last year when I was there, that's where I had a feel of one and said the rod has a lot of power to it..
I tossed and turned about it due to another rod I have already is very similar to it..
-
Thank you guys for the helpful info.
Guess now i just need to check and test the rods, whichever will suit me personally.
Happy fishing and have a great weekend.
-
Hi Henry
Did you end up purchasing one of these rods?
If so I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on them.
Cheers
Bob
-
Hi Rob,
I am going to Singapore in a couple of weeks time. Will do the shopping there. Surely i will report back. I am going to test the rod in my early January fishing trip.
-
Happy New Year everyone.
There are no stock for these 2 models. In the end, choose ripplefisher ultimo 79mh. Will try it this weekend.
-
Congratulation, you got a very good rod both for swinbait & popping, got 1 myself.
-
Pair up the Ultimo with Twinpower 12000. Test it yesterday.
Excellent rod, very light, easy to cast. Very satisfied.
-
Good to hear Henry.
If your Indonesian fishing travels are ever likely to include Bali, give me a shout.
