Not really a GT trip but "popping the sails" is becoming very popular with anglers from all over the world. Japanese luminaries fish Rompin every year and we see a lot of Aussies coming to Rompin these days.
Graeme Paterson from Synit, NZ paid Kaiser a visit last weekend. We headed up to Rompin for some sailfish action and had a go with the new Synit Deep Shot 150 and Surface Zone PE3. We also tried out the Kaiser Sailfish special rod- the Light Pop 70M.
The action was good on the first day with the DS 150 making very short work of the sails. We went 6 for 8. The bite slowed on the second day and we went 4 for 6. Had a couple of takes on lure with the El Nadador and FISHERMAN Delta 10 but no solid hook-ups unfortunately.
Generally the bite this yr seems somewhat lackluster.
Thanks to UA Robsen for arranging everything. Accommodation at Lanjut was first class ;)
Great fun with great folks :)
PS. Luke, perhaps starting a devoted section for top water sailfish action will be a good idea!

Welldone guys,
As I know, this year most of sailfish hard to catch in rompin. A lot of them still playing around Pekan & Karang Luas. ( Nearby area )
Also got nice size of Diamond Trevally on light jig & juvenil GT on light popping there. To close the trip we also do some squid jigging
for nice size cuttlefish.

Hi Jon,
Thanks for the report on the other forum. Nice pictures of Sails on lures!
Sorry once again for not being able to meet. Lanjut is a bit out of the way, it was my first time staying at Lanjut. Usually we stay at the Rompin chalet where you guys put up.
Best regards,
Mark

Hi Efendy,
That's what I heard from a friend who was up in Pekan a couple of days before our trip...the sails were whacking 60g jigs meant for Ebeks!!!! Many broken lines on light jigging outfits.
Karang Luas? Jubilee Reef? I've been there twice for light jigging and for parrots but never knew that jubilee was a sailfish playground too!
cheers

Hi Mark,
I'm not sure "karang luas" is "jublee reef". But sure sailfish playground are from Pekan - Karang Luas - Berhala Island - Rompin.
Many singaporean come to Karang Luas for firstly Ebek, Coraltrout & Parrotfish. But some of them for light casting/popping sailfish, GT and Spanish Mack.
We always lost many of our Jackson Pintail for spanish mack, but whacked by sails & blacktip.

Nice sails Mark!
Nice aerial shots too!
Cheers,
Paul.
