A mate called me this morning to say among some good fish he had caught last night at Lake Monduran his uncle got a big one they decided to keep. After numerous phone calls I was able to track down an officail weigh station nearby and she ended up going 44.64 kg.
Well done Dennis Harrold!! Out of a kayak too! If the record is accepted it easily surpasses David Powell's Tinaroo effort of 37.85 kg.
I'll post some photos when they come through.
By the way that's just shy of 99 pounds, gives you something to aim for Dennis!!

Only counts if he got it on a Popper or Jig.... ;D ;D ;D

Yeah I just saw the pics on another site.
The fish looks like is has swallowed a sheep its that morbidly obese....
If it wasnt caught soon it was surely a heart attack candidate... ;D ;D

Yeah Jules took the pics. He hasn't sent any yet to me but will tomorrow. He got one around 35 kilos himself plus a 105 cm model. They were all really fat fish.
Word is getting around pretty quick!!

Indeed Pete :).
I was expecting a Barracuda :).

Why is that Pete? It may not be jigging or popping for GTs and the like but I reckon it's a noteworthy capture in the fishing circle that people may be interested in?

What a moose!
With a dose of hot Northerlies, you could be doing far sillier things than throwing a GT Gamma around at night for those barra.
It would make you poo your pants hearing a barra that size boof a stick bait off the surface in the still of night!

Here is another picture that i got off a mate of mine recently, I believe the fish was caught a few years back. Will try to find out location.

I believe a croc attacked the fish as it was being bought in.
Will try to find out more details of this.

That's not a nile perch brock?
There are a lot of mistaken identities between the 2, only the nile perch grow 3 times bigger (and more).
Congrats to Dennis, I'm sure it was no easy task finding fish considering the recent inflows of water.

Not unless you get Nile Perch in NT
-
Brock,
That barramundi was found in the Toolooa Bends near Gladstone Queensland, by two fisherman as reported in Suntag News, 19 Dec 2005.
It had been hit by a boat, prop marks down the side, and attacked by sharks. It was still just alive when found.
That piece of the barramundi was all that was left and weighed 69 pounds!!
No doubt a very big fish for a saltwater barramundi when it was alive and in good condition.
I still have the Suntag report if you are interested.

Nile Perch have been introduced in Australia? That is very bad news given this species' reputation for causing carnage in native populations.

So the comment about a Nile Perch was a red herring. That's good news!

Hey guys,
Hate to be the Grinch! but we don't want to diversify into this content-matter....encouraging it will simply dilute the power of this forum and encourage others to do the same.
We specialise in topwater/jigging fishing and that's the direction that this website will continue to take.
Will let this slide, but please - keep it in line with the focus of this website next time.
Sincerely...
Grinch Wyrsta

Thats why... ;D
Sorry Mark...Not being a smarty but it really is great having a site purely dedicated to popping/top water and jigging only.

Does anyone know how he caught it? Maybe it was topwater? Or for that matter jigging?
Sorry Luke ;)
