Title: Another hook question
Post by: Kevin Hulse on March 29, 2011, 11:16:28 AM
Hi all,

I was playing around with some poppers the other day and and gave a 130gm Jai Super Pop a run but found that it was spending more time under the water than what I would like. I was using 5/0 ST76 trebles at the time. Is there anyone who could offer some advice as to what size hooks (both trebles and singles) woud suit this popper?

Thanks

Kevin

Kevin, you obviously have the lure at the point where it is just about to start sinking on you. What you need to do is lighten the hook load. I think Mick is pretty spot on - try going to a single hook off the tail like a Shout Kudako 7/0 or a Fisherman Shiden 13/0. If you need to go further, go to a ST-66 5/0. If the lure is till doing this with a ST-66 and a single hook off the tail, throw it away - there is something wrong with the damn thing.

Thanks for your input Brandon and Mick. Much appreciated. I will give the above hooks a run and fingers crossed I won't have to resort to throwing it away!!  :-\

Thanks Gus,

I did think about trying that but guessed, as Brandon said, it would weigh more than a treble.
