Title: New Caledonia in May 2011

Hey guys,

First time poster, so hopefully this is in the right section!

I have been offered a trip to New Cal in mid-May 2011 for 6 days, with 4 days fishing. I just want a little bit of background info before confirming my booking. The trip is structured as follows:

May 17th-18th - Fishing in Bourail

May 19th-20th - Fishing in La Foa

This isn't a live aboard trip, rather all fishing is done out of a 25ft sportfishing CC.

Main thing I want to know is, how does New Cal fish in May thinking that March/April is peak time. Pretty excited to jump on one of these trips and try to fit one in a year.

Any help is much appreciated!

Hi Anthony I fished those areas  last May with Eitenne Picquel & had some great fishing.The numbers of fish encountered was down but we did get three fish over 40kg,with one going 52kg along with quite a few in the mid 20"s out of La Foa .Fantastic place to fish,so much so that I am going back this May to do a 5 day live aboard trip.I could not praise the guides highly enough in their efforts to put us onto quality fish & their general attitudes & wicked sense of humor.I plan on making a yearly trip to NC myself as it was the best place I have ever fished by far.Beautiful country to fish & we seen a huge amount of marine life in the lagoons.Hope this is of some help.Tight lines.

Good decision,you will have a ball.As it is I am counting the sleeps to my May trip or rather lack of it.Waking up at all hours in a cold sweat after having nightmares of those giant GTs smashing my popper!Drop me a PM on your return & let me know how you did.Good luck.
