Title: Expressions of interest - jigging trip to New Zealand 2008
Post by: Brandon Khoo on November 04, 2007, 05:59:02 PM
Guys - after Marion, we don't have anything else planned from a forum perspective so I've been thinking of another trip. I'll be planning to organise another Nomad trip in 2009 (most likely Bugatti Reef but I will look to post this early in the new year) but was also thinking of something in the latter part of 2008 and was thinking of a jigging trip to New Zealand. The yellowtail kings in New Zealand of course need no introduction wahtsoever.

I've been bouncing a few messages back and forth with Cam Foley and locations we could look at include Three King or White Island or even The Ranfurly Banks. At this stage, what I'm looking for are just expressions of interest. I expect we'd be looking at a period between beginning of November to mid December. I don't have any prices yet but it will of course be considerably cheaper than a GT popping trip. I'd expect the trip to be roughly $2,000 - $2,500. That is of course just for the fishing and would exclude airfares and incidental accommodation you may need

If you're interested, please either post a response or PM me..

This is a pic from ChrisW of a 3 kings Kingie

Im  keen on it too. Depends on what happens with work as Im potentially facing redundancy due to smartsourcing at our work (aka outsourcing to somewhere cheaper). But if all goes well by the end of next year I would be quite keen on a trip across.

I could be in for a ranfurly trip. I am off to the 3 kings for 6 days on Pursuit in april and another 2 days to white later on in the year. A bit more variety at ranfurly than white.

By the way a 100lb kingfish was caught yesterday at White island ;)

Mike, what is the best time of the year for the Ranfurly Banks and what is main target species? ???
Was that a 3 Kings Kingie? If I had hair on the back of my neck I recon it would be standing up.!!

Bit windy up here today Cam did you make it out?

Some of the boys are down at ranfurly aboard pursuit armed with the whole range of custom jm rods so hopefully they have some luck and I can post pics on their return.
My flatmate was at white last week and got amazing weather but unfortunatley the fishing wasnt red hot but he still managed a 20kg king on jigs

Yes got to White on monday, and what an awesome day.Weather was a bit crappy in the morning ,a 2 meter swell with about a meter of chop on top.The day started of pretty slow with nothing but rats coming in the boat. Then we found a spot that was holding a heap a sign on and around a nice lump in the bottom coming up to about 65m and down to 100m.It was game on ,hit after hit we started fighting with kings around the 20kg mark and some bigger, i got a beaut on and was getting done over on the stella 20000 ,had the drag done up pretty heavy and was still getting burned off,was awesome, the more i tried to lift the fish the more the fish tried to pull me in,after a huge battle that lasted what felt like a hour but was probably only ten minutes max, i was starting to win ,my dad was hooked up now to and when i thought i had colour i didn't it was his fish and had gone round my line, we managed to untangle ourselves and it was looking like i was going to boat a monster, pump and wind pump and wind ,all of a sudden i felt what i thought was a bit of a last effort from the fish to get away, then i had some colour and was all grins only to be put in my place by the dark brown shadow that had came up, a 12 to 15 foot MAKO followed by my head of a king fish but what a big head it was, gutted i had just nearly caught a 30kg plus king only to be sharked about 20m under the boat, i cursed that stupid shark for sometime as the shark began to try and eat the back of the  boat, the shark was nuts and big.
We continued jigging and still got some good fish to the boat mostly around the 20kg range, Pete whose boat we were in got sharked on a solid fish so we called it a day,in the end we boated 9 kings of good size.
Will post some pics as soon as i find the USB cable.
Cant wait to get to White again, from my house its a 1 hour drive down the highway and a 1 hour boat ride out, the place rules.
Will post some pics as soon as i find the USB cable
