Title: Som 16000 spool drag issue
Post by: Gavin Ng on April 22, 2011, 09:41:43 PM
Hey guys just put a som 16k spool on my 8000 sw but the drag won't clamp down no matter how hard I tighten the drag knob. Do I need the som knob to run the spool?

Thanks

Friend of mine was having some problems with the drag on his som 16k spool, not sure if it was the same thing though but have a read of this.

Thanks Fabio, I'm very embarassed i have tried and tried many ways, pressing down the drag stack, revolving tghe spool with downward pressure, jiggling it up n down etc, and still can get it! :-[

Any more tricks? i might actually have to resort to taking the drag stack out and put the spool in and stack the washers back up?

Hopefully some one can help you out, I don't think the drag knob would make a difference.
Might be worth checking the studio ocean mark website and seeing if they can help you out if it's brand new they may even replace it.

I had a similiar problem with mine, I took the whole drag stack out and rebuilt it, I think what was happening was one washer wasn't lying totally flat and hence wasn't suppplying any drag, and negating the other drag discs above it.  This post might help you with rebuilding it.  http://www.gtpopping.com/forum/index.php?topic=2412.msg22224#msg22224 (http://www.gtpopping.com/forum/index.php?topic=2412.msg22224#msg22224)   Whatever you do make sure you get that retaining ring back in the top properly to secure the stack in place.   When i rebuilt mine i didn't get it back properly and when changing spools on the boat i nearly lost all the washers overbaord, but i was lucky and they fell into the boat and i learnt my lesson and reassembled them properly!!

you can get it in Singapore, try Sabre Tackle in beach road. if not, I would usually get it online. USD is all time low now...
