Post by: Jaime Chee on June 08, 2011, 06:16:29 PM
Hi Guys

Has anybody tried out the GT Ice Cream from Nomad ? If so how well do they work and is it worth having one in my tackle box ?

A few friends used a few richter surface plugs (http://richterlures.com/surfaceplugs) on a recent trip to Fiji, and with good results.

Best thing is that they're cheap and you can throw them *ANYWHERE* that the boys with the princess gear are too scared to cast ;)

They have a permanent spot in my light tackle bag, very effective lure. Haven't tried the Richter ones yet, but they do look similar in design.

they are standard plugs on ski boat in south africa as well  used from the shore to catch big GT , coral trout , kingfish/yellowtail,tailor,queenfish, garrick etc etc . we get them upto 9 oz in 7 diff shapes the yellowtail version is the best , if any one wants to try them contact Andrew  on this forum i made him a heap he may have a few to spare he has caught plenty on them for light tackle the 1oz skinny are killers .

These lures are very easy to fish and can be fished in a great variety of conditions. I have done very well using them land based in WA catching anything from Southern Blues to Cobia on them. Very good lure to use when the fish are around and the sharks are equally plentiful as it does not kill you to lose a few. They cast incredibly well and thus become a great land based option. Casts of up to 140m are possible. They come in different weights, shapes and sizes that do need to be matched to the conditions. GT's like the wider plugs that one has to work slower while tuna and mackeral like the thinner plugs that track straight and fast.

Not a world beater lure but definitely worthwhile to have a few in the collection.
