Post by: Byron Ford on September 03, 2011, 09:29:44 AM
hi guys just got back from new zealand doing 4 days on epic, had a great trip, alot of big fish caught, the big models were only taking livies not jigs, the biggest on the jigs were round the 15kg mark, but 35kg was caught and what a sight to see a fish that big is quite sureal, just waiting on the pics to be emailed to me an i will up load them, both skipper on both boat really know how to get you on the fish, an are both top lads i recommend this trip to those out there looking for big kings, cheap an aload of fun

Fully agreed with you on your report, was there 6 days before you with EPIC, just can't find a single compliant on the skipper, very professional indeed. Guess it the abundant of bait fish this time around that cause the kingies not to take iron. We just landed around 15 kingies on jig over our 3 days fishing which is about 30% of our total catch, the rest on live baiting, sad to say the 3rd day was zero jig fighters.

They are some great fish and stunning shots  8)

The fish are really starting to come on the bite now, surface lures are starting to take some good fish... ;)

I have booked a jigging trip this coming november (hopefully by that time the big ones ill take jigs!!!)

Any recommendations of what jigs and size to take with me?

And do the gimbals they provide are good one? I'm just a bit concerned as had a lower back injury a few month ago and I definitely don'y want to do my back again

cheers
Bert

Bizza you beat me to the punch, I have run out of duty free scotch so its time to go back. Carl & Toby where great, worked hard and smart yet very patient. Us six boys had a brilliant time and hope the next trip the fish will come to play topwater and more aggressively on the jig.
On a personal note the fish really tested gear and showed what it is capable of and the experience and knowledged gained will help in Sydney.
