well, maybe an appropriate analogy you used there considering the Dogfight drag was such that most serious GT anglers replaced the washers with carbotex and Daiwa ended up having to rework the drag washers. Still, I am not going to be unfair so will reserve further judgment on a claimed drag of 35kgs. At $188 USD, I am happy to get one, test it and report back on how it compares to a SOM NL. Any idea where I can get one quickly at a realistic price? I have a number of trips coming up in the next six months that I can really give it a good workout on.

Hi Brandon, apologies on the Dogfight, got into the 'heat of the moment'. . 8)
I communicated via email with a Ms Vera of JM in Taiwan and tried to nego the price abit but to no avail. The price's fixed at USD188 (excluding shipping) and they're not exporting it to Singapore (shipping costs to S'pore is USD19).
Perhaps you can check with them first if they'll be distributing it to where you are now?
It'd be awesome if you can locate one, test it and enlighten us with your review. Am very sure it'll be of help to all of us here.
(I've sent you a PM with the contact details)
Thanks
Rob

Hi Brandon,
Just give the boys at Fish Head a call on 07 3207 9965. I am pretty sure we still have some in stock.
Cheers,
Janelle

Anyone tried one of these yet? How do they compare with the SOM?
-
hi sandy, brandon's currently on a field-test with the JM spool and when he's done, he'll put up his review and comments about it..
-
not quite on a field test yet. I only just go the spool (thanks Fishhead).
I've filled it with line and will give it its first run in about a fortnight in New Caledonia.
-
I have two and stripped them down to grease the dragwashers just yesterday.
I am impressed with the engineering and will report on how they perform after I complete my 14 day tuna trip on the red rooster and then spend a week down in PV Mexico chasing roosters , sailfish and more YFT
-
thanks graham.. lookin forward to your review about it! have a great trip and tightlines!

Hi Brandon, hope everything is going well for you.
Any thoughts on the performance of the spool thus far?
-
I too would love to hear some feedback on these from any actual users. The price is very low compared to the alternatives (SOM NL and Nature Boys)!
-
boohoo :'(
My trip in October got cancelled!!
-
I took them to Mexico and sadly didnt find any Tuna on top water and the fish I hooked hardly challenged them at all.
Just gutted that tonight I was supposed to be in New Caledonia on a boat for 5 days fishing northern waters but this trip was cancelled by the operator just 20 hours before we were to fly out.
Next chance will be at the ranfurly banks in the third week of January where there have been some huge kings taken on top water lately
I like what I see so far but really want to see how they go fully pressed up
-
haha, no worries Brandon.. i'm pretty sure another opportunity is just around the corner for you..
graham, i eagerly await your ranfurly bank's review!
thanks guys, appreciate it.. how i wish we in singapore have the luxury of the waters over at your side.. :'(

@Robin... yeah a 16000 spool for Singapore Tamban jigging would be overkill 8)
