I'm looking for a lighter setup and wanted some help from you guys with experience.
SRG10000F 41 14/370, 16/300, 20/220 40/410,50/406,65/220,80/185 33 5 1 5.2:1 21
STL5000SW 40 10/240, 12/170, 14/135 20/245,30/225,40/175 29 14 1 6.2:1 14.3
These two reels seem pretty similar in performance, anyone can tell me main difference with actual feel?
The Stella is 7.4 oz lighter amazing, also with a faster gear ratio...
I don't have any shops here to compare both side to side but the Stella looks a lot smaller as well from pictures, but the Saragosa can hold a lot more line. These will be used from both shore and boat.
Can't splurge for another Stella at the moment because I'm looking for a rod to pair up the Saragosa with as well as a jigging rod for my other stella.

Jon,
I think you will find the only thing comparable on these reels is the drag rating. In terms of physical size, line capacity and weight the Saragosa is more akin to the 8000 Stella which has a much higher stated drag capability. What line class were you looking at using on this outfit?

Probably 60 lb JB hollow for the Saragosa, probably get about 300 yards.
If I were to get the Stella, probably some sort of 40 lb braid.
It will be used on boat as well so I don't think I would get too many yards of 60 lb on the Stella, I'm guessing maybe around 150 yards only..

Ok,
I must point out that I am no sort of expert but having fished PE 4 & 5 regularly I would personally say that the 6000 is out of the picture simply due to spool capacity and if you are looking at the Stella the 8000 would be the choice for PE 4. I think the 10000 Saragosa may be marginal for PE 6 in terms of drag capability too. Have you considered PE 5 on the Saragosa may be a better optiont for its' weight and capabilities?

Jon,
I just noticed your previous thread on PE3 oufits:

This is where a 5000 will shine.

I know..... that's what sparked the interest. But I just wanted to see a comparison. Really wanna get a Stella but also need to budget in other fishing supplies for upcoming trip.
why the Stella over the gosa. Comfort? Weight savings?
the whole setup will already be a lot lighter than the heavy popping rig.

Stella V's Saragosa? It's not a contest. The only reason to pick a Saragosa over a Stella is price. If you are after Bling on a beer budget I would start looking for a secondhand Stella or maybe a Twinpower depending on size requirements.

stella 5000sw is top reel and can ass haul in anything. buy it if you don't need the extra line capacity. saragosa is a workhorse. its the offshore version of the stradic.
