Hi All,
I have just brought myself a Stella 5000SW and I am now chasing a rod to pair it with. Budget is $600. I would prefer something along the lines of the Daiwa Saltiga Dorado SG M-Over 80s (which I can't get!) so any suggestions would be greatly apprecated!
Thanks,
John.

Looked at the Yamaga Blue Snipers?

Did a little research on this as well.
From what I've gathered, people generally like these.

This has been discussed before... I like my MC Works Ligntning 733CR, but it's not within your price range. I haven't seen one but the blue snipers are supposed to be good for the price.

Check out ripple fisher rods before you buy ..

Desired action? Poppers or Stickbaits or both?

What will you be fishing for with that pairing? I think that has considerable impact on the best rod advice.
If you will be targeting smallish, fast surface pelagics (eg sailfish, macks, small tuna, mahimahi) then I know a number of people who are very happy with the Kaiser Lightcast 70.
-
Another vote for the Kaiser Lightcast 70M, its a fantastic rod at a very good price.
There is a newer model also, the 73H. I have one in my hands however I haven't had the chance to test it. My initial impression is that it will be fantastic, much faster blank than the 70M and has impressive power throughout the blank. Also at a very good price and must be considered! :D

Completely different level of rod but I run a Stella 5k on a Nitro Viper (7ft, 6-8kg rod). Perfect for pinging slices out to macks and tuna and throwing hardbodies or SP's for reefies, queenies etc or i've even run it for barra in the dams. It's not top end but I really like the combo so far, perfectly weighted and does the job. Looking at half or less of your budget.

Anyone know the specs for the Kaiser Lightcast 70M?

Chris, 70M is PE2-4 7' and I would say moderate to fast action, 30-80g cast weight with a max drag of 7kg.
See it here> http://www.gtpopping.com/forum/index.php?topic=2645.0 (http://www.gtpopping.com/forum/index.php?topic=2645.0)

i paired with my Sw5000HG with TBL80/20 for casting 50g pintail and 65g FCLlabo poppers using PE3. The rod is a little bit on the heavier side.
Now searching for Carpenter 75MLR or Ripple Fisher Aquila 72H or Aquila 76. http://www.ripplefisher.com/english/e_ichiran.htm (http://www.ripplefisher.com/english/e_ichiran.htm)
cheers

Hi all, I'd like to point out something about.
Reading this topic, I notice that a lot of you use or suggest relatively strong rod (7 kg of drag, 80- 90 gr of CW) for stella 5000. Is my personal opinion that this class of reel is a little bit small for such rods. I tested the drag of my stella 5000 FA and dynamometre stopped befere 5 kg (drag was completly closed).
Have someone cheks the drag of stella 5000. I had been surprise from the result...
Spool dimension (not only capacity) is ideal for PE2 (or 3), for me (mine is spooled whit PP20 lbs)... So I'd like to know if there are reasons to use 5000 class reel whit PE2-4 rods, my be I underrate potentially of 5000 class reel, but for popping and stikbaiting up to 80gr I actullay use bigger reel (saltiga Z4500 or in some occasion 10000SW).
I'd like to check Yamaga Blue Sniper 70/3 or Carpenter BC 75MLR, as upper limit rod for Stella 5000.
Thanks a lot to all and sorry for english errors:-)

Haven't checked the max drag on mine but I agree it can be used on those rods. It's an incredibly strong little reel and has served me well already. Specs state it can take 13 kilos of drag, more than the FA and I would bet money it will put more drag out with a full spool of line than 5 kilos.
-
Hi Mark, Thanks for replay.
I checked both of my spool and the result has been the same. So, I understand now that SW version has a stronger drag compared with FA version (never played with 5000SW). I love my stella 5000 FA (it's now 5 years I fished whit) and I think, hope, it will service me for other years. But, at now, I will stay whit the class of rods mentioned before.

Kaiser's Lightcast 70M is only available in blanks.
We have since launched LightCast 73H in the form of factory rods.
The specs are:
PE2-4, Lure 30-90g, Max Drag 8kg, Length 7'3"
Action: Fast
Recommended reel to go with this rod would be Shimano 5000/6000 size.
I love having PE4 lines on this set-up.
This rod work poppers and swimbaits well.
Here's how the rod looks like and some of the fishes caught on it before.

me to travis, such a nice combo. I have the 5pce travel, you would never know. Stops southern kings, snapper and sharks
I also use the SW5000 with an 80TN which is a bit borderline on the heavy side but its really light, nice for all day sessions

I have a Zenaq Fokeeto Twitch 70-3 which I run a hyper certate 4000 on but thinking about getting a Stella 5000SW instead. I fish it with PE3 and it is a great light outfit, really beautiful rod to use
-
if you got a Hyper Certate 4000, you don't need a 5000 Stella, Scott
...... and I just realised I forgot completely about the spools!

Yeah I know I don't need it Brandon but...well I haven't bought any fishing gear in a while hahaha
I don't mind the Hyper Certate but having used the new 5000SW recently I think it is a little nicer. Maybe hold off and buy a stickbait rod and a 10000SW instead
