Took my neighbor out to the reef today looking for some GT's. Was a little choppy to start with but soon the water glassed off, the fish came on the bite, and turned out being an awesome session. Got 12 GT's, a Red Bass and a few trout.
Unfortunately my camera packed it in just before Nick landed the fish of the trip - a GT of 115cm - estimated well into the 20's. Even better as he was using a Penn 850 combo which couldn't muster a real lot of drag.
Another crazy moment was when two sheppards followed a GT I had hooked to the boat so that Nick could simply drop his lure off the rod tip and hooked up boatside, showering us with spray.
All up a great day, especially considering I hadn't thrown the sticks around this particular reef before.
Here's a few pics

Hi Stephen - just curious - I also fish the reefs out from Cairns alot - mainly the top of Arlington and Tongue/Batt - are you fishing in a simimilar area or more to the South.
Interesting report the last trip we had to Tongue while we only caught the 1 GT we managed around 25 plus Red Bass plus a number of Trout - certainly great fishing when the whether is down.
Cheers Chris

yeah Chris, I've had good sessions on just about every reef from Tongue in the north to Gibsons in the south. The trevs are on all the reefs around here, but took me about a year of trying before I sussed out how to find them consistently. Can't give away all my secrets unfortunately ;)
