Hi Guys,
Seems to be an issue for most, being discussed in Mark Harris's lure board thread. For those with more experience than myself, can you please give a guide for some common lures?
Ie: Lure XXX = Front ST66 5/0, Back ST76 5/0 or Front 2 SJ41 11/0, Back Jobu 9/0
Craftbait GT3 150
Kong 180
Kong 200
Seafrog 120
Seafrog 150
Cubera 125
Cubera 150
Master Bomb 155
FCL Ebipop 140
Just to start - I'm sure there are other commonly used lures to be added.
Thanks Ben

Nice post Ben, you just beat me too it. At the risk of maybe ending up with a twenty page post, is there a way "Wikipedia like" that we can just get a single page "rolling list"going that we can all add to / ammend on an ongoing basis?
Brandon? Luke?.........Mark?
Any other IT geeks out there?......No offence intended of course.
-
We can do this. Let's have the contributions and I will consolidate at a logical point in a master topic.
-
Anyone checked if there is a wiki that can share logins with SMF?
-
Thing is ... I am not sure there are right and wrong answers to Ben's requests, only individual prefrences. That might make it hard to get a consolidated answer.
Any way I will kick off with what I personally choose to use on those lures (for the ones I actually use).
Craftbait GT3 150 ST66 5/0 (in rough water ST 76 5/0) but pop is cleaner with ST66. I prefer a GT3 to sit up in the water. .
Kong 180 - don't know
Kong 200 - ST76 5/0
Seafrog 120 - ST76 4/0
Seafrog 150 - ST66 5/0
Cubera 125 - ST76 4/0 or ST 66 5/0
Cubera 150 - ST66 5/0
Master Bomb 155 - ST76 5/0
FCL Ebipop 140 - don't know.

Mark - At worst it's a solid starting point for less experienced anglers, rather than them wasting the time experimenting with completely wrong combinations and hooks :)

ebipop 140....ST66 5/0 76 are a bit too heavy

I agree.
I get (hopefully) one popping trip per year. So this info would be great value to me, as I don't have much experience.

Here's one from me:
Fisherman Delta5 170 gram sinking. I have just bought a couple of these for the first time, and will probably stick one in my bag for Southern Oman on Saturday. Any thoughts on hooks? It's a big ugly sinker so I guess it will not be too sensitive?
Thought I would give this one a go despite really not liking the floating version!
If anyone has used it, some guidance on hooks would be much appreciated.
-
Mark, as a sinker, i don't think the lure will be as sensitive on hooks.
-
That kind of what I thought Brandon and thanks. It is though plastic, hollow and full of what sounds like ball bearings... so not a typical sinker by any means!
-
Just seen this one and have added my comments where appropriate.
What about for Stickbaits:
Some Popular ones to start:
Adhek Goby 2 x ST66 5/0
Orion Bigfoot 170 usually use singles on this one: owner Jobu 9/0 x 2. Have also caught fish using a SJ41 13/0 on an assist cord off the front.
Sebile Stick Shadd 182 never used
Patriot Design Patrol 345 never used.
Nomad Dogtooth 150 ST66 5/0 x 2
Nomad Bobara 100 ST 66 4/0 x 2
Carpenter Gamma 200 ST 76 5/0 x 2
Carpenter Gamma 160 ST 66 5/0 x 2
Orion Big Namba 210 never used

It would appear that Owner SJ41 TG 11/0 have been replaced with SJ41 TN 11/0.
I've just ordered a pack, will be interested to see if there is a notiable difference.

New TN version arrived, the difference is clear, they are now silver, instead of gold.

The gold TG finish on Owner singles has been notable rubbish over the years - very prone to corrosion. It's potentially good news that they have switched to the TN finish which is the one used on ST66 trebles for example
-
Recommended Trebles for the following please:
Hammer Head I Cup
Nomad Bobara 150
PD Master Bomb 135
Nomad Skipjack 150
-
how about craftbait GT3 170 & 190, realbait 170

Hammer Head I Cup (sell the lure :P)
Nomad Bobara 150 (ST66 5/0)

Nomad Skipjack 150 (ST66 5/0)

how about craftbait GT3 170 & 190, realbait 170
GT3 170 - ST76 5/0
Realbait 170 - ST76 5/0
Both would probably take a size bigger - the relevant Recorder or Decoy. With GT3s though I am always careful about not over-weighting them. It is a fantastic popper and especially so when it sits up a little in the water.
GT3 190s I use so rarely that I should not comment.
