Good evening,

Does anybody have experiance with these rods?

i have at the moment 2 jiggingrods: Shimano blue rose PE6 and a Tenryu giga red denth du chien.
For a next trip i am looking for a heavyer rod for fishing in water around 100m deep.
Are these Ripple fisher 5210 and 5215 ok for that or should i take a 5220?

Best regards,

Arnout.

Hi Arnout
you wouldn't really be looking at a 5210, more the 5215. I'd be very careful about the 5220. That is an absolute animal of a rod!

Hello Brandon,

You mean that the 5220 is to strong? My idea is to buy a PE 8 rod for jigs around 250 to 350 grams.

Best regards,

Arnout.

Hi Arnout
The 5220 is an absolute brute of a rod. I can't say it is too strong for you but it is definitely too strong for me!

Hello Brandon,

I allways wundering how people decide when a rod is to strong for them or you.
For example when you read the reports from Oman you see that they allways use heavy rods for the GT,s
But i don,t believe that all the fisherman that go over there are heavy bodybuilders.
So how do you decide that a rod is to strong for you?

Best regards,

Arnout.

;D ;D ;D I heard of a fisherman who is built like a bodybuilder who went there and ended up passing his rod around on a big fish  ;D ;D ;D

Now, now Kasey  - let's wait and see what happens to you!  ;D
Arnout, I haven't noticed any of the guys going to Oman with the real heavy artillery at all. Which rods are you referring to?

Hello Brandon,

Race point 300 - carpenter Monster hunter - hots xxxl. i think all around PE 10.
If you ask me quiet heavy rods. Not PE 12 but when you ask me strong rods.

I don,t know how hard the poppers they use are to use. But a few weeks a go i bought
a Ripple fisher Infinity Light PE 8 and made some test casts in a local pont with a Patriott design Masterbomb 150 gr
and had the idea that i could work it really well. So than i think what do you really need and what can you handle.
The thing is that i would like to buy a extra rod like a Ripple Fisher 79 GT reversal. Or when i need a extra Jiggingrod
a 5215 or 5220. Depending the destination where i will go to.

Best regards,

Arnout.

Handling heavy GT rods is very much driven by technique. It of course helps enormously to have the strength (and size) to utilise the rod too.

I would suggest to you that the Ripple Fisher Infinity Light PE8 actually is not very suitable for the Masterd Bomb at all. If you compared how that rod works that lure to a stronger popper rod, you would notice a huge difference in popping efficiency and effectiveness. of course, at the end of the day, it is all a compromise which you need to work through and decide what aspect you want to compromise on.

Coming back to the 5220, I can only tell you what my opinion is but there is one way to find out whether you can handle it or not!

Hello Brandon,

Yes i now how i can find out: Buying 1. The thing is that i can use it 1 or 2 times in a year so i like to buy the right one.

About the Ripple fisher GT reversal do you think it is usable with poppers like the Masterbomb and Cubera from Nomad?
And is there much difference with the Infinity Light? Or should i better buy a other model?

Best regards,

Arnout.

Arnout, I would suggest to you that perhaps you should go on a trip with the Infinity first and then see how you find that on the trip rather than rush into a buying decision on the 79R. The 79R is a vey good rod and will handle the poppers you are referring to but if you can resist the impulse, take a bit more time before you commit.

The 79R is noticeably stronger than the Infinity Light.

If I was going to be drawing parallels between jigging and popping rods, can I suggest to you that a 5220 would be equivalent to a Ripple Fisher Final Spirit 78XH. For comparative purposes, the Infinity Light is a children's rod compared to the 78XH so this will give you some idea on what you are biting off if you want a 5220

Hi Arnout,

For jig around 250 to 350g either 5210 n 5215 will serve you well, the difference only at the tip section 5210 is softer than 5215 with the same butt power. 5220 is different got more power n the max jig 560g.

Cheers,
Jeff
