Title: Where to go?
Post by: Andrew Poulos on February 28, 2008, 04:56:35 PM
Hi all,

Im posting on behalf of a friend who is looking to go on an overseas fishing trip with budget about $5-6k per person, incl airfares . Looking at areas such as PNG, Fiji, New Caledonia etc or others.

Which of these can fit the bill and offer a wide variety of fishing options as they want to be on a charter. Any locations and charters that could be recommended would be great and I can find out further details from that and help them out. Target date is next few months I believe.

cheers
Andrew

Andrew - a budget of that size bring a lot into play especially if there is more than one person wishing to do it. What type of fishing does he like doing?

They arent as fanatical as I am but they want to go somewhere and catch some decent fish. They arent into jigging for ages but could handle some poppering. They are looking for some bluewater action and then some more relaxed river or inshore fishing. I know the possibilities are probably quite a few but trying to point them in the general direction of regions and areas to look at.

Hi Andrew,

I'd say New Cal or remote parts of Fiji for a good mix.  The lagoon fishing available offers a great mix for the offshore stuff.  New Cal has the worlds largest lagoon, and Fiji has the 4th largest reef off Kadavu.  Vanuatu for bluewater action, big and tough pelagics....
Depending on amount of people aswell as preference of live aboard or resort, means they could really cover new areas and have a ball.

Sounds fantastic

Dave

Andrew, do they particularly want to go overseas? For that money, they are really looking at some serious domestic charters. They could get out to Bugatti Reef with Nomad for that or head up to any of the barra lodges in the Northern Territory where you could get all sorts of fishing.

For overseas, I can only really offer opinions on GT locations but i ain't much good for much else these days.

Their preference is for a live aboard charter , but not sure if it has to be o/s. I'll find out if they are more keen to go o/s or stay domestic .

cheers

For live aboard, the best options (IMHO) are Nomad and Carpentaria Seafaris.

Andrew, we now have two vacancies for Marion from 17 to 23 May. We will be advising Nomad we have two drop outs next week. If they're interested, they will want to be quick. I do not expect these to last at all once Nomad advertises of the vacancies on their website.
