Title: Honeymoon in the Maldives - which charter?
Post by: Martin Gundersen on July 04, 2012, 04:40:16 AM
I'm helping a friend on his coming honeymoon.
He wish to do some popping and jigging at his stay in the Maldives.
GT is the main target fish, but other fish are welcome.
Day trips only (no liveaboards)
Rental of fishing equipment is advantage.

Any suggestion on a good charter?

I just had a mate who went over albeit on a live on board surf and fish adventure.
Not many big GT's but plenty of bluefin trevally the biggest over a meter.
Highlight for him was a wahoo on fly off the beach, standing next to a channel with bait busting up and wahooooooo!

I had my honeymoon in the Maldives. Some of the good resorts have a charter boat attached. We went out on the resort boat and got some decent fish. We were staying at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island and it was awesome.

Popping blue trevelly from the back deck, doesn't get any better than this!

Hey Martin
i also was looking for a charter to do some gt popping while in the Maldives on my honeymoon. i ended up getting in contact with Damian from the average angler and he organised 2 day trips for me. As i am yet to go, (my honeymoon isn't till next February) i don't know what the charter or fishing is like but Damian was very friendly and easy to deal with. i am taking my own fishing gear so am unsure about rental. i hope this helps.

I've fished the Conrad boat a few times and as George says it is good and the skipper specialises in GT popping. As for popping off the decks - well thats a 500 buck fine on any resort if you get caught as all of the resort islands are strictly no land based fishing. The Conrad is a GREAT place for a honeymoon, top resort, 41 ft Riviera (with resort prices to match, although it does have a capucinio machine and Bose stereo....). You can also eat underwater in the resteraunt and watch Gt's cruise over your head as you dine.

The Hilton also has a boat, although the crew didnt know anything about GT popping, more a trolling deal, needed your own gear.

The Kanuhura also had a great boat and a guide service (or rather it did when it was a One and Only resort) as well as deserted islands nearby where you can wade the flats casting at GT's/Bluefins and the like, as well as bonefish on fly etc.
