Title: Small Reels with Big Drags
Post by: Trevor Skinner on July 13, 2012, 04:02:21 PM
Hi,

I'm new at this game so I apologize if I'm asking something obvious.

Small good quality reels (particularly the Stella 5000SW) seem to be able to exert a disproportionate amount of pressure on the lighter rods and lines that typically balance with this size of reel. Is it just something that you have to be aware of when using these combinations or is there some way of compensating in terms of tackle?

Regards,

Trevor

Just be aware of it I think Trevor. I can't imagine any circumstances where I would attempt getting even close to the max drag setting on a Stella 5000.  That reel pairs beautifully with 20/30 lb line and a rod around the max drag 4 kgs.
