Title: Saltywater Tackle GT Monster Treble Hooks.
Post by: Saltywater Tackle on August 10, 2012, 07:49:13 AM
We are in the final stages in making these hooks for GT's.
These hooks are 100% hand made in Japan and boast some unique features!
Stronger and better steel, unique design and tapered eye for easy installation of split rings.
Below are the 2 designs of 10/0 (30g and 20g) we have in mind and another 25g is in the designing stages.
Here are some pictures of the prototypes we received.

Fantastic!
Are you going to be making smaller sizes of the hooks as well?

Can they make these barbless? We usually either grind or crush the barbs to avoid damage to the fish and delaying release.
This usually leaves a spot of unprotected metal where rust can set in.

They look a lot like the shogun hooks? Same manufacturer?

Very good job Sami and Paul!  Great to see the appearance of another option for GT hooks.

My only comment would be, why not make them barbless?

Nice looking hook. I think the tapered eye is a great idea but must agree barbless would be a good option!!

Awesome!  do you guys have any idea of a ballpark price point yet for the 10/0 hooks? It would be awesome if we didn't have to drop enormous dollars on large hooks such as GT Recorders. Cant wait!

Thank you Brandon,
It's gonna be size 10/0 and 12/0 for now, smaller sizes will be introduced in the near future.

Guys,
The first batch will be available with barbs. We might get 2 models next time - Barbless or Barbed.
Agree with rust settling in when barbs are crushed we have the same issues...
Thank you.

Nathan,
No pricing yet for the hooks, still have some knick knacks to take care of.
Thank you all for the feedback, will keep everyone updated with the latest happenings!

Nope,
These are coming out of Japan, makers of the very best GT hooks :)

If they are specifically GT hooks, would be great to have a barbless version only as that definitely sends out the right message. And crushing down barbs or dremmeling them off does causes corrosion issues.  That's probably the main reason why folks pay big money for GT Recorders.

Do the sizes pretty much mirror Decoy sizes?

Look forward very much to trying these and very well done for taking this step.

Hi Mark,
I agree with you 100% on the barbless version but from a business point of view giving the option to the customers to crush the barb is our only option right now, planning to have them barbless after the first batch :)
the sizes is close to the decoy hooks, we will start production with 10/0 sizes and then move forward to start the productions of the bigger version  12/0.
the 12/0 will be an ideal hook to cover all the big sizes lures such as the Gamma 250 and the Shell Shaping Twister F6.

Excellent work men, will you look at decoy sizes 6/0 and especially 7/0 ?? I have the 2 left of this old decoy saltwater version and am too scared to use them and loose them as they are almost collectors items as far as I can see.

Hi Andy,
Thank you  :) For the time being we are only emphasizing on the extreme need and what is hard to obtain with consideration to the demands, will see how it will goes and will take it from there :)

Hey Sami,

Time frame bro? Expected release date? I have a larger popper prototype and would like to weight/balance this lure using your 10/0 hooks. Good to see the hook point curving in towards the shank, this will prevent a lot of collateral damage to lure bodies.

Keep us updated bro, and best wishes for a healthy start for the new addition to the family!

Hi Sam,
I would say in another 2 to 3 month at the most, i would like to put them through the test soon.
we have a couple of GT' trip planned and will be using them intensively to make sure they withstand the abuse , there is no better way then testing them in the field.
Thank you for your wishes :) the Boy and the Mom are doing great :)

Hi Guys,
I finally had the chance to test the hooks in Yemen and i have to say that i am happy with the result so far, some adjustment need to be made and will be conducting more test in Southern Oman next month so we can finalize the hooks and put them in the market before the end of the year.
the following is some of the result:
the lighter version of the prototype hooks, I guess the way the fish hooked was actually to the favour of the fish
