Title: Split Grips or full grips
Post by: Travis Pantohan on January 24, 2013, 02:20:41 PM
Aloha

I am working towards my first land based GT popping rod a UC100xxh2j.  Still debating whether to do rear split grips or full grips.  Looking to hear from fellow fisherman on what you guys prefer split or full and what are advantages of split grips or full grips.  Thanks. Aloha.

Hi Travis,

I definitely would go with a full grip because split style grip has a better chance at getting the blank scratched  >:(

cheers

For casting work split grip for me, but agree with dante don't go jamming into rocks and no trolling lures either the split grip makes it hard to get out of rod launcher

from a rod builders perspective, split grips are more cosmetic than anything, now driven by perceived market demand rather than anything else. I'd stay with a full length rear grip

Thanks for the response guys.  Will probably go with full grips.  Aloha.

Howzit Travis, I'm having the exact same blank wrapped for me right now. Decided on full length grips, cord over shrink wrap. Just out of curiosity what kind of grips will you be putting on yours? Mahalo, Aaron.

Howzit Aaron. I was probably gonna go with colored EVA triangular shaped grips for above reel seat and regular circle for the rear.  Who wrappin yours Nate?

Hi Travis, yep Nate is wrapping the blank for me. I have no rod wrapping skills what so ever, hahaha! Do you have your blank already? Those UC blanks take forever to come in but with Nate building it for me I know it's going to be worth the wait. ;D
