Title: 2010 Saltiga
Post by: Kris Wright on March 03, 2013, 09:43:42 AM
Hi All,

I am new to the forum and new to popping.  Have come from jigging and have an arsenal of daiwa reels from Alphas to Saltigas.  I am waiting on a Carpenter CV79 and have been looking at a 10000 Stella or the new Saltiga 5000H.  I have read some bad reviews about the new Saltigas and just looking for some honest opinions from people that have been using them in anger.  I realise all the issues with Daiwa, warranty and how good shimanos after saes service is just want some feedback on the new reels.  Cheers

Kris

I have the 6500 and have been using it for jigging and popping... So far so good! But from experience with daiwa in the past, after sales service is a joke. I would nearly go a shimano just because of that. Migh be worth hanging off buying one until the new Stella is available then reconsider?

I have both shimano and daiwa and have found that said a service has gotten better of late. I like both the reels you are looking at and currently  use a Stella 10k for my stick baiting. I would seriously consider the current model daiwa Catalina released last year. It is basically a saltiga with a couple of bearings less and can be had in that size for not much over $600. I have played with one and prefer the feel to my Stella.

I have heard it has improved recently. I have to put the saltiga in for a service so I hope that it has!
