Title: Drag setting?
Post by: Jack Lai on May 11, 2008, 02:13:08 AM
Hi,

When GT anglers mention 10kg or 12kg drag, how do you set this drag?

Is it pulled straight from the reel? Or

Line through rod guides and lift 10kg under the tip (use a spring balance)? Or

Line through rod and pulling the 10kg at about 5m away from the tip?

Jack, I would suggest that there is no standard and that different people are talking from a different basis.
For me, it's pulled straight from the reel. I have no curve whatsoever in the rod if I am pulling through the guides using a spring balanced scale.  If I'm using a Bouz, it's straight from the reel a few inches away.

Thanks for the explanation Brandon. Me too I set my drag with no curve on the rod.
